    Capital gains and income?

    Favourite answer:

You will be taxed on 75k.    If you owned the stock more than a year, the 5k capital gain will qualify for the lower capital gains tax rate.    You would file a Schedule D and use the worksheet in the 1040 instructions to figure your tax.   If you go straight to the tax table, you'll overpay.

Can a landlord verify tax return documents ?

So lets say I apply for new apartment and the landlord wants tax return to verify proof of income. Can they call Canada revenue to verify? Will Canada revenue or tax return office disclose how much that person made that year? Or would that be deemed privacy breach?

If you get one months pay on one paystub instead of getting paid every week are you taxed more? ?

I still make the same amount of money but if i got paid one months pay on one paystub instead of once a week would i be taxed at a higher rate since the paystub will be way more money? Or is it the same as i would be taxed getting paid once a week just seems like more since its a bigger paystub? If that makes any sense.

My mom cashed my kids child benefit check into her account without my knowledge?

    Favourite answer:

As others have said, call CRA and discuss with them the fact you didn't receive the check.  DO NOT mention that it you suspect it was your mom or you think you know who it is. They may be more likely to blow you off and make you go deal with on your own. "I did not receive nor did I cash the check. I need to know what to do in order to get the money which, since you said it was cashed, was stolen and fraudulently cashed."  CRA can trace where it was cashed.  They may also tell you to file a police report.  Follow their lead and push them hard if they try to blow you off.

Is my landlord doing tax fraud ?

Is my landlord doing tax fraud ? For the past 10 years, my landlord, who lives in New York (Me in Quebec) has been using my address as his to receive his mail. He has a friend that picks up the mail and rent from us to send it to him. I started looking into it because it looked odd. I don’t really understand why but from what I heard, he’s using my address to receive his mail and making the government think he lives there so they don’t know we’re paying him rent, which means instead of paying taxes, he gets the full rent without the tax deduction. Can someone please let me know if that’s it? Thanks!

If I get laid off from a full-time job, do I get my federal/provincial taxes back?

I'm not sure if this is true or not! But I was laid off from my full time job this year that I had for about 15 months.

How does owning own business at tax time work?

So my dad sat down with me and said I should look at starting my own business (sole proprietorship). I've been a carpenter for a guy for 2 days a week and then I do cash side jobs like home repairs, siding, decks, fencing etc, foundations.

He goes on and on about how I can write off fuel, meals, housing, hotels, etc etc.. He says to keep my receipts and claim them at tax time if I start up my own business..

What does that even mean, like when Im using TurboTax do I manual enter in my 3000 receipts for the year? And they give money back? How do I enter in my Canada pension contributions? There are so many questions..

Biggest reason I want to be my own boss is because I do good work and I want to develop my name and take time off when I want. And I'm tired of putting into employment insurance, and when my boss lays me off he doesn't want me to put in a claim.

Yes I am uneducated but there's seriously no guidance for this stuff. Help!

    Thanks
