"Faulty hardware corrupted page" Blue Screen of Death due to an external hard drive?

I have been getting the faulty_hardware_corrupted_page quite often. I have recently eliminated the possible sources down to the my external hard drive. It only occurs when I have my Toshiba hard drive connected and regardless of whether I'm using it or not (though the system is very likely to be swapping the pages of the hard drive in and out, causing the issue). I use the hard drive to listen to music, so what can I do to possibly solve this problem?

before you do ANYTHING, you should rule out a bad hard drive. i see a few of these a year, but they are far more common than people realize.

run chkdsk with recovery option on your C: drive.

then run sfc and check that it completes successfully.

if both run without errors (check logs), then next you should check for viruses. temporarily uninstall your antivirus (yes you read correctly), then download Malwarebytes Antimalware software (FREE). update and scan your PC, and let it take care of anything it finds.

    finally, go to C:\windows\softwaredistribution\Downloads

and delete EVERYTHING there. this is old Windows Updates you don't need anymore.

reinstall your antivirus, then reboot and see how it runs.

if it still gives you headaches, go to the Control Panel, click Programs & Features, and click Date Installed in the header above the list to sort by Date Installed.

then start uninstalling things one at a time (skipping your antivirus this time) and see if it fixes things.

get replacement HDD and then use mirror software to copy the entire old drive to the new one -- if possible.
