North Carolina had arguably the best school system in the southeast. Then the Republicans in the state legislature started dismantling it. Things will only change when people stop putting Republicans in charge. They don't believe in public education.

Why would they be going by national averages as opposed to states average income levels? Even within the state, the average incomes for whatever regions. My state's average is high 60's, my towns average is over 140 thou, the teachers of this town average just over 80 thou. Lower then the town's average but higher then the states average income levels. Can't be compared to national, some it blow their budgets while other area's, they couldn't live.

North Carolina probably has more than one school system (most states do). The teacher salaries are likely to be higher in big cities and their suburbs.
