Why is Pres Trump trying to unscrew the financial hold China has had on the US .....that no other President has had the balls to do?

Personal gain?

Already, the US is arriving at new trade deals with other countries like Japan, Mexico, Canada, S America and SE Asia, to make up for China's loss of trade.

Trump is simply a business negotiator looking for a win-win deal. In a free market, it is common for businesses to attempt to seize control of their market, attempting to form a monopoly where there is no more competition to fight against. Governments play referee to break them up. Trump believes the U.S. has something to negotiate with and is simply attempting to break up the monopoly China is headed for.

He got 15 years of life left and not exactly in tip top shape.I think saving the country is the legacy he wants and craves good or bad your idiots to think its about money. Your politicians today have all the money they want power. Trump knows saving this country from globalist scum and the puissant media is awesome.

Because he does not like it causing American Jobs and Money to leave this country. For starters! Plus to stop it would place the economy in a far better place than it is right now!

All I know is, I love buying cheap stuff from China for my car on ebay, and Trump is doing his very best to screw it up.

Just how well do you understand international economics? My guess is not much - like Trump. Having a trade deficit with a country does NOT mean they have a a tight financial hold on us. Surprise! Trade deficits are not all bad. Trump has an overly simplistic understanding of trade with no interest in getting a better understanding. He just wants to look good to his base - without caring about long-term consequences.

The new trade deals are not making up for all of the loss of trade with China - just ask midwestern farmers.

Let me ask you this - what EXACT result would you consider good enough to make up for the suffering the tariffs have caused here in the US? How will you judge whether or not the tariffs were successful? Trump is just looking to save face and appear strong. He’ll call literally anything a success. Are you gullible enough to fall for that?

Manitou-too busy working toward my masters in economics to watch CNN. But thanks for the example of motivated reasoning.

Boy, are you out there. Trump has not only attacked China but attacked the other countries you mentioned on your list. In fact many of them are seeking other markets for their goods and looking at other sources of supply to replace items previously purchased from the US. As for Trump, he still has products made in China, is still involved in developments in other countries that benefit from close connection to projects financed in at least part by China. The one thing Trump has done is increase the influence of both China and Russia in many parts of the developing world and reduce US influence not only there but on a world wide basis.

Trump renegotiated NAFTA with Canada (where the US already had a trade surplus) and Mexico. The end result, a plan basically the same as before with a nice new name that Trump can brag about. The problem, not one of the 3 countries have approved the deal which was arrived at when the Republicans controlled both Houses and could have passed it yet they did not even look at it. Just like Trump's threats to close the southern border, Trump acts like a bully which does not make for good partnerships or trade relationships. The fact that most of Trump's actions to date have hurt the US Consumer is something carefully ignored by Trump and not understood by his supporters.

LOL. How would any of that personally benefit Trump? I think your tin foil hat is on too tight and it's cutting off circulation to your brain.
