How many young kids live in North Carolina?

North Carolina is one of the ten most populous states in the country. It's recently been ranked the 18th best state to live in out of 50 and the District of Columbia. Virginia came in at #7 and Georgia at #17, slightly edging past North Carolina, but Tennessee came in at #30 and South Carolina at a dismal #42, so North Carolina ranks about as well as one of its neighbors, worse off than one, and better off than two. Not bad when you think about it. The population of North Carolina that's under 5 years of age is about 7%. The population that's under 18 is about 25%, so over 30% of North Carolina is comprised of young people. What exactly are you complaining about? The national average for the portion of the population of any state younger than 18 is 20%, so North Carolina actually has MORE kids than most other states. Shut up already, you don't have any idea what you're talking about. By the way, these statistics are widely available from state and government websites. Check them yourself.

North Carolina schools are overcrowded. I graduated in 2010 when things were okay and remember going back to my high school about six years later. It was packed to the brim in the hallways and things. I can only imagine what the classrooms would be like. That could also be due to so many people moving to NC in the past couple decades. I believe private schools are doing fine though.

According to the US census website, 22.2% of NC's population is under 18, and 6% are under 5 years old, so about 16% of them are school-aged. With a population of 10.38 million, that should be roughly 1.7 million school children, using 2018 data.
