Volvo xc90 2006 2.5T Check engine light from bad 02 oxygen sensor?

I have a volvo xc90 2006 2.5T. My car was showing check engine and I took it to the Volvo dealership to get it checked out. They said I was having a problem with Upstream 02 oxygen sensor and steering angular sensor. I replaced the oxygen sensor and the other part. The mechanic turned off the check engine light after replacing it with a new oxygen sensor and I drove about 0.7 miles back home. I started the car again and drove about 3 miles and the light came back on. Does it mean that I have to drive it for certain miles before the light could clear off? or the issue is just not yet fixed?

With out knowing the exact code it is hard to diagnose. If the condition is a lean burn, the odds are that the problem is not the sensor. For what it is worth the 2006 2.5T is very close to the Ford family of engines. There is a vacuum hose that runs behind the intake manifold to a port on it. This hose is a common failure item and gives a up-stream O2 error code. Sometimes "out of range" and other times "Lean Burn".

Clearly the sensor is not bad- the problem is some where else.

A little suggestion, go to you-tube and see what you can find out about it.

Go to an auto parts store and they will read the codes for free. Write them down a re-post here with the codes. The 02 code may be gone and you may just have a code for the steering angle sensor.

Does your "mechanic" know how to program the new steering angle sensor?

The mechanic reset the light. The car went through a drive cycle and the light came back on. It is on to stay now. It could be one of the two problems were not fixed by just changing the part. Or could be something else altogether. You need to take it back and have them pull the code again. They will be okay with it because this happens sometimes.
