Intel core i5 650 vs core i3 540. Which one should i opt for gaming without spending unnecessarily?

From sources i got to know that i should opt for i3 530 rather than i5 650.

Is it true that both are dual cores because i thought i5 650 is quad core unlike the other i5 models.

I have a budget of Rs30,000 ($730) only. So, if both are dual cores then will both of them give the same performance (or nearly same) while gaming and graphic designing. Please suggest me so that i would prefer the best choice in my budget.

if those two r choices , then i will suggest going for i3 model only (if u r thinking about overclocking)

if not the i5 650 is ur option

but instead of i5 650 , i will highly recommend i5 750 or i5 760 , bcz those r actual quad core processors , they use same motherboards as like i3 and i5 6xx models , same RAM , and for 1000 or 2000 Rs extra , the performance is really worth it

i will suggest investing in i5 760 now , if required , cut down on hard disk or even ram , those parts can be upgraded any time u want , but upgrading ur processor is kind of thing which we do after 2-3 or even more years

    Core I3 540

i checked a couple of online reviews and the i5 650 was NOT recommended. it's only a little faster than the i3 540 and turbo mode tends to lead to a lot of heat.

    go with the i3

at this price level [sry, had to convert in my head here], i've been building with AMD cpus.

be sure to get the AM3 socket on a mobo and the resulting computer will be upgradable in the future.

Intel based boxes generally aren't very upgradable.

in all possibility the 1st a million. The i5-3570k is a much greater ideal CPU even though it somewhat is slightly overkill while in comparison with something of the equipment. The pictures card is what concerns while gaming and the Radeon HD 7770 is an ok pictures card. although, the i3-2100 interior reason vulnerable. yet it rather is why it somewhat is purely a $550 equipment.

i5 has a better architecture and therefore should perform faster and the i3 will probably bottleneck your system. The i5 650 is dual core however the i5 750 is quad core. im running the i5 650 right now and its very fast. however considering your on a budget go for an amd, because they are much cheaper and you can easily get a 6 coreone for a better price than an i5. there performance is only slightly, if not at all, slower and they are soo much more cheaper. go for this one: http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&q=P...

  • You'll probably need a DEDICATED GRAPHICS CARD. You need to have a good graphics card for high end gaming and graphics designing . So focus on that.

    Hope this would help.

why don't you get the Intel core I5 M520 2.4GHz one? i have it on my laptop and it very great (4 logical CPUs of 2.4GHz) and its cheap, it got a 6.8 score which is too good and better than the rest of models. i'm a gamer my self so far no game lags here even the best games out there
