How can I move to Lake Tahoe, CA?

Question

Never mind the money, I have enough.

Am I supposed to plan a vacation and 
stay for a month in a motel, while I look?

Or better yet, should I call up 5 apartments
fill out applications over the phone
and tell them I plan a two week vacation 
up there? That makes more sense - right?

If you want  to move to Tahoe, call the apartments, apply for a vacancy, and just move.

Apartments aren't a long time commitment if you don't want them to be. You can do enough online research to find something good enough, stay for a couple months, then go to one you like better. So long as you live light, moving's just a U-haul rental away.
