Did atheism cause the end of Yahoo Answers?

No, but it might be that Yahoo Answers came close to causing the end of some atheists here, because many, if not most, of the Christians in this forum practiced Christ's message of love by threatening atheists with the eternal fires of hell if they didn't convert.

It is a considerable possibility. Many, but not all, eschewed thoughtful discourse, unfortunately missing many opportunities to "come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4). Here is what John 3:19-21 states about this behavior: "This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God." When the comments were enabled, the disparaging retorts were often overwhelming. Feeling some minimal level of shame for their behavior, they prolifically resorted to "anonymous" posts, because, as the passage states, they "fear that their deeds will be exposed". This was a good forum for the non-believers to get an opportunity to question and debate why God created them, why they are here, and what they must do to be saved.

No. Trolls are the immediate cause, but they were able to take over the site due to the decision to change how it was moderated, which I think was triggered by failure to monetise it effectively.  However, they don't seem to have been proactive in exploring its potential.

Yahoo has nothing to do with Y!A since Verizon bought it.  Perhaps so many leftists at Verizon caused the shut down.  Doesn't a Chinese own stock in Verizon?

No irrational hate, mindless trolling, lack of advertising revenue and sites being held liable for user created content will make corporations not want to have this kind of baggage with their names on it.
