Why was I told to wear glasses full time?

I'm 23 years old. I'm near sighted. I had a eye test as I was getting severe migraines. I wore glasses when I was in school for distance work then stopped wearing glasses shortly after leaving school. The optician told me I need glasses full time despite being able to see clearly for close up. My prescription is -0.50. My brother has the same prescription as me and not told to wear glasses full time. Why was I told to wear glasses full time?

If you are greater than a -3.00 and/Or have a lot of astigmatism then you probably have to wear them Full-time. ... Yes, you should wear them all the time.

If you need them only for reading or driving, there may be no reason to wear them all the time. Wearing prescription glasses when you need them will prevent eye strain, headaches, blurry vision, and other discomfort, and anti-reflective and UV coatings will protect your eyes from the sun and glare.

It seems that you've got both ends of the candle lit. It's best to follow the doctor's instructions. I'm not sure how old you are, but wearing glasses is a bit of a fashion statement these days. So don't be concerned about your eye health because of this situation. When you have your script and see for yourself that you can see without straining your eyes, you can find that you feel less eye strain.

Why didn't you ask the optician?

Did you get some features on them like blue light filter? I'm not optimistic but a filter like that could help prevent migraines. If all there is to your prescription is -0.50, we have no reason to expect that wearing your glasses when doing near work will prevent migraines. Unless it does. Sometimes things work in unexpected ways. If you are not having migraines when you wear your glasses, wear them all of the time. We don't have a very good understanding of migraines and the things that make them stop.

You were told to wear them all of the time because of migraines. If your brother don't have trouble with migraines, its possible that he may not need them for everything. So what if you have to wear glasses all the time, if it helps to reduce or eliminate your migraines, its worth it! Your brother likely will need them for driving and it wouldn't hurt him to wear his all the time too! There is nothing to be ashamed of by wearing glasses, they are easier and cheaper than dealing with contacts and more effective too. Most people will have to wear glasses in their life but it aint a big deal as you are fortunate that you have a very mild prescription. Do yourself a big favor and put them on when you get up and wear them all day till you go to bed regardless what you do!

I'm guessing your migrains has something to do with it. But if you want to keep getting them, then don't use your glasses full time.
