Do you include your commission when people ask your salary?

You don’t have to tell anyone your salary.

Actually, I wouldn't discuss my salary with others unless it's at a job interview and the interviewer asked me about my current salary. 

You would only need to state your base salary and commission if going for a new job. In this case, you would want to talk about your commission or sales as this demonstrates your performance over and above your basic salary.

You don't have to tell ANYONE what your salary is. Unless you're applying for another job somewhere, it's nobody's business. You can always just say "I make enough to live on," then change the subject. 

If a prospective employer is asking what you make on your current job, then you tell them the base salary and say you also make commissions. Since that amount will vary, you don't have to be more specific, usually. 

Nobody should be asking what you make, unless you're trying to get financing.

A commission is just the same as a salary.  When people ask..........just say you earn $60 K.

I always used averages after there was enough info to have them.  Over the decade plus I had my own business I ranged from 80 to 120 thou per year, so I just called it 100.  My wife has a bonus plan plus her base which is about 120, no idea what her bonuses are but they allow her to take a couple of cruises every year. But we just round out her salary and cal it 100 thou.

Say you make about 60k with commissions.

It depends why they are asking.

Base salary is known and predictable.

Future commission is unknown and not as predictable.

Base salary + commission (assuming 100% of quota is attained) is "Target salary".

I would say, "My target salary is $x."

I think you should just say your salary because commission fluctuates
