Pontiac G6 or Dodge Caliber (first car)?

Hey everyone! I just turned 16 in August so my parents are getting my a car this month and letting me pick from what they’re willing to get me. They narrowed it down to options a Pontiac G6 and a Dodge Caliber. (Both 2010) I like the looks of the Pontiac a lot and it has leather and a sunroof, but my parents like the caliber more. I just would like some knowledge on which car is better and why. I think I like the Pontiac more based on looks and sportiness.

Personally, the Caliber is more trouble than its worth. Most Chrysler models of that time period were all turds. Pontiac wasn't much better, but they are easier to maintain and repair, so between the two, I'd settle for the Pontiac even though I have reservations on that.

Typically the G 6 should be more reliable than the Caliber, however condition will vary depending on type of useage and maintenance the previous owners performed.

Both the G6 and the Caliber are absolute dawgs, Brandon.  They both are simply poor quality and very unreliable automobiles.  Beg your parents to keep on shopping.

Tell them if they buy the Dodge they will be spending way too much money on the repairs it will need. The motors in the Caliber are junk. I've owned 4 Pontiac's and have gotten 280.000 miles out of them before selling them. They were still running well when I sold them and I had very few issues with the cars. Just make sure you change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles and check the oil level every 1,000 miles between oil changes and keep the oil topped up.

Neither vehicle is great but between the two, I'd suggest the Pontiac.

Having said that, there are better choices out in the used car segment. From the early 2010 model years, I'd suggest either a Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla ( or Matrix, or the Matrix twin, the Pontiac Vibe ), or Mazda 3.

You might want to go with the Dodge caliber the Pontiac is no longer made! There for maintenance and parts are going to be harder to get and more expensive.
