Porsche, superbike, or supercar?

For Sunday morning drives I feel like I need to be experiencing so much more, yet I don t know which route to take.

I think Porsche people are the greatest, and to be apart of that community would be a privilege, but with the depreciation of 458 s and the fairly reasonable price for an R8 or NSX I m not sure which route would be more worthwhile for the brisk, abandoned city, windows (or top) down sunrise drive.

That said you don t need windows when you re on a motorcycle, it s the most visceral, engaging experience ever...but I m stumped.

Does anyone who has experience with each have an opinion or insight?

A superbike is a very good way of getting killed if you try riding one without proper training on how to safely use the extra speed on the road.

A Porsche, is a good car but very expensive when they go wrong..... a lot of servicing jobs require taking the engine out, and extra defensive driver training is strongly advised to keep it one piece..... especially when it comes to how to overtake without the back end kicking round when you hit the gas pedal.

Supercars are much like the Porsche when it comes to servicing.... with some reports I've heard suggesting it can cost $30k a year to service a Ferrari.

On a normal public roads you're just as well off with a simple sports car like:

    - Honda S2000 (Finnish couple from the "Beyond the Press" channel on YouTube have one)

    - Mazda Miata/MX-5 (there's also a tuned version called a "Monster Miata")

    - Caterham 7

    - Aerial Atom

    - Light Car Company Rocket

    - Lotus Elise / Exige

Get the oldest car you can find. With bad shocks , bald tires, loose steering and weak brakes. Then go for that Sunday drive and see how far you can get with the gas pedal floored. That should be a visceral, engaging experience .

If you are getting your adventure from driving you are not living enough.

Speed on public roads is stupid. But since you are stupid....

Motorcycle is cheap speed, but you need to be armored, and you will be hurt anyhow.

Next step up is the car that is closest to riding a motorcycle -- Caterham Super Seven. Look it up.
