Have you re-formatted/re-installed Windows 8.1 in the last 2 weeks ? Please help.?

Whenever I re-installed Windows (8.1) in the past I immediately received some 30 or 40 updates. I had to re-install

Windows/format the HDD again about 2 weeks ago and no updates at all have been forthcoming so far. The only thing I can think of is that Microsoft stopped

supporting W/8.1 -- In the Control panel, Updates/Check for Installed updates there is nothing, no recent updates and no

updates installed at all and no history of

installed updates. It simply says ' never updated' or 'Updated: never'

Question: Have you recently re:formatted and re-installed Windows 8.1 or know of anyone who installed W/8.1 afresh and have you or them received any updates or none att all like me ? I am worried. Thank you so much in advance for all your help.

Update:

Thank you to the three people who replied. I have replied to all of them and I hope you can still help.

Update 2:

For the four friends who are trying to help.. In the past 12 months updates came DAILY, yes, daily... and now after I re-installed windows with formatting no updates at all ? Am I right in suspecting that that someone maliciously damaged my desktop ??

I think the reinstall you did while the date/time were wrong (going from a previous question - dead BIOS battery) was corrupted somehow and that's why it is not receiving updates.

Try another clean reinstall now the date is correct and the BIOS is retaining its proper settings.

For info, Updates still work for versions of windows that are out of support, just no new ones are normally created after the end date - but reinstalling an older system still gives all the updates that were made whilst it was in support.

    1. does it have a network connection (wifi or hard wire)

    2. have you pressed "check for updates" inside the windows update page in settings/control panel

    3. did you recreate the install medium just recently, Microsoft likes to slipstream updates into the install medium so you have less to download and update.

    4. a new bios battery does not require an os reinstall, you can run the computer perfectly fine without the battery. It is separate from the OS and only passes though some info such as date and time. That info can be changed with no issues that the OS will notice.

Windows 8 is still supported. In most cases, you need to start the updates manually, or let it sit turned on and connected long enough (sometimes days) for it to start the updates.

no, they haven't stopped supporting Windows 8. they haven't stopped supporting 7 quite yet, but that is coming soon.

What may have happened is no new updates were available.
