It's gotten alot more popular in recent years as far as in Westernized countries. It's something that's been around for thousands of years, & I'd known people were still doing it even in the US these days. It's just that you're seeing it more often now. I don't personally know anyone that's done it,nor have I done it myself;although it's becoming more common,it's still not as common as tattoos or piercings. Though it's certainly not uncommon, either. I have tattoos, stretched ears, & a few piercings (I've taken most of mine out as I've gotten older),though I wouldn't do the scarification thing. If that's what someone wants to do,that's their business,I just wouldn't do it myself, nor would I ever do branding. The thing is that even if you have someone with alot of experience doing it, sometimes you can't predict exactly how you're going to heal. I have very fair skin,& I have scars that have happened from natural reasons (accidents, etc.),& most of the time they're pinkish red for a long time before they turn white. Or,I even have scars that are blackish in color after they heal. Maybe in the process of scarification they have some kind of control as to how it will heal, but I still wouldn't do it. I'd rather get a tattoo-I know that's like comparing apples to oranges, but I like that you have the choice of alot of colors w/tattoos.

I'm with you re.cartoon thing. Scarification is more hardcore than tattoos, and still has shock value and is something different.

There are various groups of indigenous peoples who use it instead of tattooing, sometimes as an initiation rite (look up crocodile scarrification ritual if you have a strong stomach) these people are generally dark skinned, so tattoos would not show, and they also have a tendancy towards keloid scarring, so the scars stay raised and vivid.

Whilst I sort of admire people who get impressive scarifications done, knowing the aftercare is brutal and time to heal is weeks, I can't say I find it appealing outside of the cultures where it is practised as a sacred act / initiation etc, but each to their own.

C'mon now...Babies are beautiful! If you want to consider of it in phrases that will support you seem at a youngster as a optimistic for you, believe of it like this: that attractive youngster may sooner or later be the health care professional/Nurse/residence care supplier/and so forth... That is taking good care of you when you need to be looked after. Despite the fact that if feminism in Australia gets rather more powerful, they could simply march you out the Outback and let the Dingos feed on you when you are too historical to do some thing about it. My point: discover a extra worthwhile pursuit than simply trolling!

its all preference of human modification/mutilation. ive thought about having a professional job done. in many forms. people find it attractive, same as a tummy tuck or boob job. everyone lives on the line of mutilation. where you stand is what YOU call modification.

I read about that in my anthropology class. I think it is weird too. Some tribes use it for idenfication, etc. and people in Western society who do it are just weird lol.
