Why did Śrī vyāsadeva write sixteen purānas, six each in the three material modes.?

The first answerer should be thanked for learning his mathematics and pointing it out that it should be eighteen in stead of sixteen. Thank you for pointing it out.

Your mathematics is good, but learning religion is better than mathematics and the best is practicing it.

If you are a Christian then be a good Christian. The same thing with being a Muslim or Jew and so on.

You can say that UNAUTHORIZED Religion is evil, worst, stupid and blight on not just modern but any society.

But, did yo study *all* religion. Without studying *all* religions one can accept *all* religion is evil and stupid only due to lack of knowledge. Due to ignorance one can say *all* religion is bad.

    I think the answer is within the question.

    For those who are in Tamoguna, there are six puranas which can lead to a person's salvation.

    For those who are in Rajoguna there are another set of six puranas which if followed can lead to salvation.

    And for those who are in Satvaguna there are the highest six puranas which takes one beyond the 3 gunas and makes one jeeven mukta.

    So one in whom any of the 3 gunas is predominant is attracted to that particular set. And by following these puranas slowly a person is elevated and purified so that he/she can see the Divine Lord seated in the hearts of all living and non-living beings, and serve that Lord seated within their hearts and remind others of their true purpose of getting this human birth.
