Heat protection products for hair?

I have a layered wavy hair which lies between the shoulders & the waist.

It's sort of oily in the roots and normal to the tips.

It's doesn't tangled or get frizzy but it's not a fine, lying flat on the head kind of hair either..

It's quite thick & gets very voluminous..

It's healthy (no split ends/ dandruff/ lice..etc)

I haven't done any kind of salon treatments to my hair ever...such as coloring, perm, rebond...etc [Not allowed yet :( ]

I always take an umbrella or wear a cap when I go out.

I do not brush it vigorously =D

So my hair is pretty much non damaged.

Nevertheless about its condition I take care of it well.

I use a mild shampoo suitable for everyday usage & a thick conditioner.

I message my head everyday for about 5-10 minutes when I bathe.

I apply a damage repair mask & a hot oil treatment to my hair once a week.

If I go out I also apply a leave in conditioner.

Furthermore I constantly cut it since it grows fast.

I bought a hair multistyler recently & didn't start to use it yet.

In one of MichellePhan's hair tutorials she said if we want the curls to hold for a long time we should apply less products to the hair.

She also said that it's ok to apply heat protective spray to the hair if we want but what she does is deep conditioning the hair prior to the curling process.

So my question is;

If I only curl/straight my hair about several times a month (3-4 times) then do I need to use a lot of heat protection products on my hair?

Will deep conditioning the hair before I curl/straight would be enough?

If I definitely need to apply heat protective stuff, then what are your recommendations? creams? sprays?gels?

Which brands? drugstore? high end?

It should be a brand available to buy in Sri Lankan stores/supermarkets..etc since I cant do online purchases... :(

Btw this is the second time I post this question since I didn't get answers last time.

Plz help me.... [-o<

Thanx in advance :)

lol No its totally okay if you only straight/curl/crimp your hair 3-4 times a year. No difference. But if you straight them everyday or on alternate days then you need serums, creams and need to use hair oil and conditioner more often. Like me I straighten my hair two time sin a week using serums and sprays

Your hair regime is excellent! OMW, if only more people were like you, more people would have nicer hair.lol

Anyway, the saying goes, prevention is better that cure. So I suggest you apply a heat protectant because you are applying heat to your hair and holding it there for a while. Deep conditioning is good, but without the protection it's kinda hard to restore your hair back to normal if it is heat damaged.

I recommend a heat activated styling spray or creme.

VO5 So Smooth Smoothing Creme works wonders. It's been reported that Tresemme does not work, otherwise it really doesn't matter whether it's a creme, gel or spray as long as it does its job properly.

ANYTHING by Paul Mitchell. His stuff is excellent. But you have to buy it from a hair salon. Most of his stuff is under 10$. Also, use Tresemme shampoo and conditioner of any kind. I swear by it.:) Hope I helped!! -Caitlan
