A friend wants to breed his 120 pound GSD with his 45 pound Husky?

...And of course I want to dissuade him.

I know that when breeding little dogs like chihuahuas, something like this would kill them. But could it do the same with a 45 pound ***** bred to a 120 pound dog?

Update:

Not true, the breed standard for female huskies is 35-50 pounds or so. For males it's 45-60.

But they aren't my dogs. I'm active in rescue so of course I want to discourage breeding of mutts - particularly more BBD's. And I'm a laid-back dog kind of gal. A husky would be the last breed I'd seek out.

Update 2:

*sigh* Steven, that's irrelevant.

Update 3:

Joan, I wouldn't either. I need to dissuade someone ELSE, though.

If you have a 45 husky it's probably under weight! Because huskys are naturally heavy dogs and should be at least 60 pounds.

Anyway, you should ask a vet, and the dogs should at least be about 2 or 3 years old.

Sure would like to know where you live so I can call the authorities on you for wanting to start a puppy mill. That's exactly what it is you doing and don't deny it!!!! In my county, you would have to have a kennel license in which they would refuse you one cause all your doing is wanting to breed breed breed. Not caring about the health of your animals or the pups. Not caring about the temperments that the resulting pups will have. Not caring that all shelters are already overrun with animals and that thousands of dogs are put down on a daily basis cause there aren't enough good homes for them all. You won't find anyone to answer your questions cause your too selfish. Get a dam job and stop using your credit cards. Then you won't have to worry about paying them off. Sheesh!!!

  • All of the tests listed are necessary for the health of the ***** and her litter and also to screen for possible genetic problems that could occure in future generations. THat mix will result in a dog that has LOADS of hip & elbow and joint problems.

I think the husky might be able to survive, but it certainly isn't a great thing to do. The only reason I say this is because I've seen that particular mix a lot; then again, who's to say what happened to the mother of those dogs. I would try to ask your friend why he wants to do this. If it's just because he wants a husky x GSD mix, tell him to look in a shelter. I see this mix a lot, probably because of people like your friend.

It could kill your friends husky. If she only had two or three puppies it wouldn't be too bad, but any more than that would be catastrophic. I've seen litters of 15 puppies!

Tell your friend to call your local animal shelter and ask how many Mutts are put to death in your area each month because later on one of his puppies will be one of those dogs.

anytime a smaller b*tch is bred to a larger dog there could be problems for the small one.

explain the cost he is going to have to pay for this venture.

vet bills, especially if he has to have emergency care for her.

    shots for puppies

food for puppies and extra for mother

why does he want to do this?
