Hi there. Saint Francis attracted followers who loved him for the way he lived his life, initially unhappy to have followers, he realised in the end that he should explain and teach his ways. The people who came and decided to follow his path took vows to always do so and the order of Franciscans was born - not because Francis decided to do it, but because people had begged him to advise and he couldn't refuse while being true to himself.

    Cheers, Steve.

He didn't. Franciscans is the name given to his followers.

His order came about after people started following him, wanting to become his disciples
