Why is it that our deepest emotions are expressed best in English in poetry rather than prose ? ?

Update:

I am surprised at the variance in opinion ! I believe in English this is undisputable, that the best of emotional being has expressed much better in poetry, - Shelley, Keats, Milton, Shakespeare, etc..Can we say this about prose ?

In French it looks that it is opposite. The question for me is why in English this is so !?

Update 2:

What I am trying to convey is how is it that English has become such a great language for poetic expression. Anglo-saxon heritage and culture is hard like granite. is it the Celtic, Norman or Irish culture that has brought about this strange but holy marriage resulting in this beautiful ambrosia ?

    The Language of The Heart

    bound by no grammar,

    dejection,rejection,or love for d nation

its got one for all..panacea evolve...

    cures pain,brings rain,

    bound by no dimension.

    u write what u feel...

    its how u self heal..

its best cause it comes from the heart...

That is a very nice question.

The answer to your question is in a quotation of Dr. Singh on 'Human Nature and Development', as below,

"Poetry is a gift with refined, rhythmical, higher, musical and spiritual form of intellect and intellectual pursuit that touches the delicate aspects of human body, brain, mind, soul and Nature. To be a poet and or appreciate poetry one requires blessings and gift of God for a very; refined mind with taste and appreciation for beauty, Nature and human mind from the unimaginable point of views beyond the comprehension of an ordinary mind.

To appreciate and enjoy poetry similar qualities to a lesser extent are needed otherwise you know the story of a bull in a china or crystal glass shop. Only a good jeweller knows the values of good diamonds and rubies."

Hope that answers your question and helps.

Emotions arise from heart.Poetry with its poetic language best appeals our heart, whereas prosaic style satisfy the logical intelligence in an individual. Therefore the deepest emotions are best expressed in poetry than prose.

Yes.because the poetry toiuches the heart.Prose everyday we speak to each other as it becomes conversation of our life.If i put our emotions into poetry then its not only my emotions,it enters the sensitive mind of the people and even ours.We can hide what we actually like to convey as well as we can convey what we want to say.Its like wide way after that closed doors. We dont know what is there behind the doors as we are not able to pass the wide way.

  • I can't say that I agree with you, but a poet's heart generally dictates where the muse leads ... and that frequently is Love. John Lennon had it right: All you need is love, love is all you really need.

Prose writers include sports, gossip columns, etiquette, war -- little that leads to love, which is the most complex and deepest emotions we share, IMO.
