Video Playback Problem?

I have a very old Pentium II laptop and it's working fine except for the video playback. All videos seems to run in slow motion, the display moves almost like a slide-show. I don't know what is the source of the problem. I've tried updating the graphic card drivers but that doesn't solve the problem. Any ideas how I could fix this?

Specs:

Pentium II 299MHz 128MB RAM 4GB HD

Update:

The videos work fine on my PC.

Jaanu forget everyone.Main hun na.I'll buy you a brand new p4 laptop. But if you want to use yours for some days you just convert the video in 3gp or some other low format for mobiles or ipod.I think it will work.If it don't then tell me i'll give you mine vaio p4 just for a hug..........

Ok first of all, did you have this trouble before, if so its probably becasue you have a pentium 2. If not then its something else lol.

First of all try shrinking the screen size of the video and see if it plays any faster. If so i have no suggestions other than getting a new laptop.

You can also try and download a new player for the video. A good one is Media player classic. It is very basic and you should be able to getter higher frames per second.

    Good Luck!

Two Questions: 1) Which version of Ubuntu are you running? Are you on the latest, 10.04? 2) Are you using 32 or 64 bit? Edit: 10.10 is still in Beta, which could be the problem. You might want to check Launchpad to see if there are any bug reports detailing the problem you are experiencing.

Ther r many pbms 1st ur pc is p2 thats d main pbm,bt since u say videos were working fine earlier ! that made me 2 think? wat i suggest is....check in device manager if u hav incidentally removed ur vga drivers if so than try 2 install them(uninstalled drivers r shown in yellow (!)mark in device manager),

check if u have changed ur media player(earlier u were using wmp n nw something different)than try 2 use ur earlier player.(wat i suggest if 98OS than use wmp7,if xpOS than wmp 9 which r defaults 4 windows).

keep only 1 vido player & uninstall rest since ur hdd 4gb.

free up disk space sometimes full HDD runs slower therby making data access slower.

try to restore system to the date when u used 2 play ur videos properly.

uninstall n e new software installed, sometimes tat can 2 cause pbm

check if ur ram i.e 128mb is fully accesed by system or some other programmes r initialised in backgroung startup which is utilising ur RAM n leaving only few 2 access by wmp.

check if u hav installed n e antivirus which is running in background & utilising RAM(if u use ur laps offline than ther is no need 4 ne antivirus just uninstall it.)

since you're using pentium II, i believe it's a bit old computer, i think the video card can't support the type of cd / movie that you are using.

might as well, try to watch that movie to a pentium 4 computer, to see if you're having the same problem...

May be the codec will solve you problem. It's a puck with lots of .ddl files for Windows, that will decode all video formats.

Here is drect link to download them.

Just whan you will be instaling .ddl video data base make sire to deselect video player - I think it is first option (will see whan u will be instaling it)

Your video card is outdated, for the newer movie formats.

i told u not to buy that laptop, even then u bought, k, u can do nothing other than dumping that one, even if u want to up grade ur laptop's graphics, u cant do it as it is outdated, and no one sells any graphics cards that wil fit in ur laptop.u can use that one just for text editing.

set your power settings to performance instead of balanced.. this uses more battery power (if not plugged in) but should improve the playback..
