What is GDT in Engineering Design ?

GD&T is Geometric dimensioning & tolerancing.

It is a technique / method for dimensioning and tolerating an engineering drawing. It is independant of user software like PRO_E, UG, Catia, AutoCAD, etc.

Method of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing is unique for all engineering applications.

GDT [Actually GD&T] means 'Gemoetric Dimensioning and Tolerancing' which you MUST have studied at college.

By the way, there are some in the industry offering specific courses on GD&T. Some of the features covered under the topics will be:

a.Datum plane selection

b.Geometric Characteristic symbols like

Flatness, straightness, circularity, cylindricity,

perpendicularity, angularity, parallelism, profile of a line,

profile of a surface, circular runout, total runout,

concentricity, symmetry and position

c. MMC, LMC, i.e., use of modifiers in datum features

d. Boundary coundition assignments

e. Position tolerance to complex assembly in multiple datum

structures, and more....

Pro/E is a three dimensional parametric / feature based solid modeling software developed by Parametric Tech Corp. [PTC] HQ in Masssachussetts,USA.
