I have a Compaq Presario 6000 series pentium 4 desktop. When i bought it, it had 128 MB ram. The desktop is upgradable to 2GB according to crucial.com. I also bought a 1GB PC2100 266Mhz kingston ddr ram that is supposed to be compatible, as my earlier ram was a PC2100 series. The problem comes in when i try to add the new ram. The system does not detect the upgrade and also fails to startup. With the earlier ram, the system works fine. I am not able to make out what the problem persists. The ram is also a genuine one as verified by Kingston.com.

Could someone help me out here on the fronts of upgrades.

I bought a Maxtor 500GB external hard disk recently. Accidentally i dropped the hard disk. Now it is making beeping sound when connected to a power supply and is not recognized by the laptop. Please help me, as i do not want to lose the money i put into it and I require the hard disk urgently for moving my files from laptop to the drive.

A week earlier my system crashed. Its a Compaq Presario 6000 series. When trying to restore from the cds issued from by the vendor i met with a problem certain files required by the installation would not get copied to the system properly. Initially i thought that the harddisk had crashed. But later some one told me that it could be a problem with the databus. So i tried again after changing the databus but all in vain.

Could anyone tell me what can be the exact problem with my system. [I have retored my system on previous occassions from the vendors cd.] ? Please help. Is it the Hard disk that requires the change or the database.

Recently I applied for Pro-E design engineer and found requiremnts for Pro_e with knowledge of GDT. What is GDT?
