  • Folk Tale - what's the name/author?

What's the name/author of the story about a princess who refused all suitors, who's father then ended up marrying her to the first guy who walked by (who was a prince in disguise of a poor man), and she ended up working at a prince's castle, only to find out that the prince was her husband?

Is there a book I can purchase or can I find the story online?

    Thanks!

  • Black Mold and house rental?

I've been living at this place for about 3 1/2 years now. Saturday I found a patch of black mold in my garage that's about 2 ft by 1.5 ft. I rarely go into the garage, as it's used for storage and not for vehicles.

My landlady wants to just paint over it, and my lease is up at the end of July. Here are my questions:

    1) Is it legal for her to even do that? I know black mold is a serious health issue, and can't be contained by just painting over it.

    2) Do I have a legal obligation to report her actions to someone?

    3) Can I use that to break my lease?

    Thanks!

  • If you died before Jesus was alive, where would your soul go?

I'm not of the Jesus-believer religion, so my question is specifically in relation to the Christian/Catholic/etc. faith. If you died before Jesus was alive, would you have been sent directly to Hell, do not pass Go, do not collect $200? Would there have been any chance to go to Heaven if you were a very good person?

  • What would happen to a Computer Monitor if...?

What would happen to a more contemporary computer monitor if you drained it of liquid crystals? Would the screen be completely black, or just a bright light... or would it be a mass of fuzzy colors?

  • Testing Blood Sugar Question?

I'm a type 2 diabetic who has been dieting and am taking the proper medication (pills, not insulin). I know that the standard for testing your blood sugar is test in the morning before food, and 2 hours after eating.

My question is, if over 2 hours after eating food, I still feel full (no matter how much or little I've actually had), should I still test my blood sugar level, or should I wait until I'm running on empty?

    Thank you!

  • How can I train my cat to stop doing this?

I have a cat who is the sweetest cat on earth until she smells food, sees food, or sees any human being go into the kitchen.

Her feeding times are 6 AM and 6PM (approved by the vet). She wakes me up at anywhere from 2-4AM yowling for her food, and knocking stuff off of my nightstand. I put her outside my bedroom, and she yowls, bangs up against the door, and now is jiggling the door handle to try to get herself in.

When I am cooking food, even if it's something she doesn't like (onions, etc.), she'll twine herself about my legs and stares at me begging for food. I scoot her away or spray her with a water bottle.

When I'm sitting down to eat, she'll jump on whatever surface the food is on to try and sneak a bite. I spray her with a water bottle which only stops her for about 30 seconds, in which she runs out the room, runs back in the room, and jumps back on the table. I've sprayed her with water, sprayed her with water mixed with vinegar, grabbed the nape of her neck and set her outside the room, only to have her come right back and jump on the table. If you turn your back for a second, she will get into your food.

She can't eat human food. She has specific allergies that cause a major skin condition. If she eats any food other than straight up dairy or fish/shellfish products, she will end up itching herself to the point she'll bleed.

I've done everything I can think of, but it just doesn't stop her. I'm guessing at this point I'll have to lock her in another room in order to cook or eat, but I just don't want to do that. And the yowling upsets me.

If anyone can help suggest alternatives in order to curb her behavior problem, I would be very grateful.

She cannot eat hard cat food - all of them contain either rice or brewers yeast or the type of meats she cannot have, so that's out of the question.

Please help! I'm starting to go crazy.

  • Please help - What song is this?

This question will most likely not get the answer with so little information, but I have to hope. When I was a little kid in the mid-to-late 80's, my father had a record (not cassette) of one particular band. This band, I'm pretty (but not 100%) sure had a bunch of guys faces on the front inside a circle.

I don't remember the tune anymore, but I believe it was quite a popular song. It was a rock-ish based song, not country, but the lyrics were about being in the south and around mountains (or the band name had Mountain in it), and stuff like that.

It was not John Denver. It was not a country sounding song. It sounded like a softer rock song without actually being soft rock. It was produced either in the very late 70's or early 80s. I don't believe it was Alabama, as I've flipped through several of their songs, and none seemed right.

I remember years later watching a TV show about the band.

Sorry about the very fuzzy memory, but if you can help me figure it out, I'll not only pick you for best answer, I'll give you all 5 stars.

    Thanks!

  • Why do Virginia wines taste so bad?

I may not be a wine connoisseur, but I do have a taste for wines, especially white. As I reside in Northern Virginia, from time to time I go to a local vineyard. So far, I've been to 6 different ones, and after tastings in all of them, I have yet to actually want to purchase a bottle. They taste terrible. The flavors vary, but it's all awful.

I know Virginia is nowhere near the list of great areas for wines, but I was wondering why do they taste so awful?

  • Will you help with advice regarding my Chevy Impala?

i've been having an issue with my Chevy for a while.

I bought the car a couple years ago used with high milage (125,000). I figured there would be problems with it, so I got an extended warrantee.

Since then, my check engine light has been on approximately 75% of the time I've owned it. I've brought it in for repairs as necessary including O2 sensors and whatnot. Recently, my car has been stalling. When I turn it on in the mornings, for a while there I didn't let it warm up like I should. But that wasn't the problem. After pulling out of my driveway just fine, I would shift into drive, and press on the gas. It would only go forward about 3 MPH for about 5-10 seconds until it randomly decided to "listen" to my gas pedal and go all the way up to 25 MPH.

So, that's been going on for a while, but then it started randomly stalling. My vehicle's headlights automatically turn on when I start it. Sometimes the lights would dim a bit, but when I pressed on the gas, they would go back to being normal brightness. Then I would let it idle, wherein after a few seconds, it would go back to dim, then brighten again on its own.

More recently, my car has been stalling. I would turn the car on, let it idle a bit, and it would eventually stall out, but be able to be turned back on. After a while, travelling on the major roads, when traffic would get heavy going into work and I would have to break to either stop all the way or slow to under 10MPH, it would stall once in an hour period. I could immediately turn it back on.

I brought it in to my trusty repair shop, and they replaced some sort of major piping that dealt with the fuel system (Sorry I don't recall what it was.) Cost me $300 total, which is a nice chunk of change. My check engine light turned off for a bit, and turned back on about 50 miles later. I recently brought it into the shop again, and it turns out the O2 sensor they installed was faulty. They said it shouldn't affect my car, and I'm to bring it in Wednesday to get it replaced (today).

This past weekend my car has stalled again while on the road. I can turn it back on easily, but I'm getting sick and tired of my car being slow on the initial pickup and stalling randomly in heavy traffic.

I understand after reading online for a bit that it's an electrical problem, but I just don't know what it is.

I would appreciate any suggestions regarding what it may possibly be, and what I can do about it. (No asinine responses like "Get a new car," please.

  • I have a serious rape question?

Please note, before I go into my question, I know rape is a terrible and horrible experience that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I am not trying to make light of an awful situation. I am not judging people who have gone through that type of experience. I just want to know why.

Why don't most people who get raped go get medically tested and press charges? I mean, yes, those who've been raped have gone through a traumatic experience, and it is awful and shouldn't have happend.

Why do they not go and get a rape kit through a non-traumatic route and press charges on the *evil person* that did it to them?

And if the person who's raped doesn't, shouldn't he or she be afraid the person who did this to them will do it to other people too? Does this not factor in? Also, if the person does continue with sexually assaulting others, wouldn't that just make the victim feel even worse? Why don't people do things about situations like these?

I know I'm trying to make logical sense out of a very emotional and traumatic situation that I have not personally ever been involved in, so please, help me out here, and let me know from your perspective.

  • What kind of cat would you prefer?

I own two cats, and both have a pleasant demeanor. I am somewhat curious as to which cat the public would prefer (just a theoretical situation).

Would you personally prefer to own Cat A or Cat B?

Cat A is extremely smart and can easily be taught tricks. She normally hides from people she doesn't know, but once she gets to know them, she'll eventually let them pet her. She is affectionate for a grand total of 10 minutes per day. She goes to you every time you call her. She does not scratch or bite. She sleeps in her owner's bed curled next to her owner's side every night (but does not want to be petted.)

Cat B is an extremely affectionate and friendly cat. She's also kind of stupid. She tries to spend a grand total of (if I'm home) 6 hours being affectionate. She chases her tail from time to time and is difficult to train. Her favorite thing to do is use all non-cat furniture as scratching posts. She makes up for this by following you everywhere and making sure that you're ok, as well as asking for belly rubs.

Which cat would you prefer if you could only choose one? Thanks!

  • As a diabetic, how do I?

As a type 2 diabetic, from time to time, I work hard and forget to eat. There comes a point where my blood sugar finally gets so low I realize that my blood sugar is low - crankiness, can't focus on anything. Now, this does NOT happen often. There is a reason that wherever I am, I have food near me. The problem is that when I get to the point where I realize my blood sugar is low (as I have been focusing on whatever task I've been working on to the exclusion of hunger/eating) I won't remember I have food with me. It's always after I confide in someone else that I have low blood sugar, and they provide me with some sort of food that I recall that I have food in my purse. Any suggestions about what I should do during those rare occasions where my blood sugar drops to remind myself I do have food I can eat?

    Thanks

  • Can you please assist with a costume idea?

Can you help me with an end-of-the-world costume?

I'm going to an end-of-the-world party tonight, and I need cheap costume ideas. And places I can purchase said items. I will only have 2 hours after work today to get whatever items I can get. Budget is a little tight, so I'm hoping to get everything for around $50. Or less.

Any ideas? I reside around Centreville/Manassas/Chantilly, Virginia, so anything local would be a huge help. 2 hours! (I was invited last-minute, so that's why I'm asking about getting stuff quickly.)

    Thanks!

  • Why must you say Merry Christmas?

Hello. I'm a white woman in her late 20's. I understand that a lot of people in the US are Christian, or some offshoot, and that's a good thing. I'm happy for them. I also enjoy all of the beautiful decorations at this time of year, and all the great sales, and cheerfulness of people, and the parties and everything. All that stuff is great. Could use a little bit less Christmas songs, because after the ten thousandth time of hearing "Jingle Bell Rock," I feel like stabbing out my eardrums, but that's not the point of my question.

My question is a several parter.

    1) Why is it that because I'm a white woman in her mid-20's, people come up to me and wish me a "Merry Christmas"? I actually am Jewish, and after the 50th time of hearing this, I kind of get annoyed.

    2) Why do people get pissed off that "Happy Holidays" is an acceptable greeting? I understand that there are an awful lot of Christians, and Christian offshoots who believe in Jesus and whatnot, but where I live, in America, we're considered a Melting Pot, where there are a lot of people of many cultures, backgrounds, and religions (or religion-free). Why is it insulting to some Jesus-believers that people say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas?

    3) Can I say "Happy Hanukkah" back to people who say "Merry Christmas" to me, or is that just a jerk thing to do? Would it be better for me to say "Happy Holidays"? I just want to point out during those times that I'm not a Jesus-religion believer, so saying Merry Christmas to me is just not appropriate, even though I understand you're trying to be polite.

Thanks very much! And Happy whatever holiday you're celebrating or have celebrated, or just enjoying time off to hang with your family!

  • What is this book's name? Please help.?

When I was a little girl (early 90's), I would go to my school's library and fell in love with a book. This book was a little bit about Jewish culture, a lot of Jewish fiction, and if I remember correctly, it had a few recipes in it as well. It was an extremely illustrated book, and I believe the main story line was about a grandmother (bubbie) telling stories to her grandchild on their way to the local market. I tried looking for it on Amazon, to no avail. I believe it was a hard-cover book that seemed to be brand new at the time. Do you think you can help?
