  • Will you miss YA when it's gone?

I'm pretty sure I will, because it is easy to ask a question, and if the details aren't too long, you get an answer fairly quick.  So I am going to miss it for it's ease of use, and availability.

What I'm not going to miss about YA is the lack of moderation.  It's a real shame that Verizon decided to close down Yahoo Answers.  Take care everyone :)

  • Is it normal for a PC to shutdown at 185°F?

I was playing a game on Steam earlier today, no problems, all of a sudden, my PC just shuts down.  I attributed the shut down to overheating of the CPU, because in years past, that's always been my number one problem.

So then I was running a program called Core Temp.  So after a bit I got back into the same game, saw the temps getting into 170°F so I quit the game, closed the Steam program, and my temps weren't dropping.  Then I see the temp jump to 186°F and black.  Everything shut off again.

Google search brings up results that 100°C is when a PC would shut down, but mine shuts down at 85°C.  I am running the AMD FX-8300 chip so not sure how much of a difference it makes vs. running Ryzen or a newer Intel chip.

So is my PC shutting down at 85°C normal for that chip then?

  • What's the best way to set up your PC case fans?

Currently I have 5 case fans.  The front fan is intake, the fan on top closest to me is intake, the fan on top behind that fan is exhaust, the fan on the side of the case is intake and the fan on the back is exhaust.

Should the fan on the side of the case, be intake or exhaust?  The fan, is a Kingwin fan, so it's only spinning at 950rpms.  I once had the side case fan setup as exhaust, and it did get pretty hot under the table, as that's where my tower is.

  • Can someone on facebook see who visits their facebook page?

I don't have a facebook account, but say I look something up and it takes me to a facebook page, can that person see that someone visited their page, or how does all of that work?

What if I did have an account, and visited a facebook page, would that person be able to see that John Doe looked at their facebook page?

  • My dxdiag says Miracast is available, but not finding a wireless device?

I read an article that said, to find out if you can cast from your PC to a TCL Roku TV, you can run dxdiag, and there should be a line that says "Miracast: Available, with HDCP"

My dxdiag says Miracast: Available, with HDCP, but yet in File Explorer when I right click on a .mp4 file, Cast To Device, it says, "No Device Found"

Is there something special that I need, in order to cast to my TCL Roku TV?  My PC uses an ethernet cable to get internet.

Do I need to have a wireless USB dongle for internet on my PC if I want to cast to my TCL Roku TV?  I don't know what I'm missing, but my TV doesn't see my PC, and my PC doesn't see my TV.

  • What's a good modem/router combo?

We have an Arris Surfboard SVG2482AC that we purchased from the shelf at Best Buy several years ago.  It is one device, and was labeled as a modem/router combo.

What is another good modem/router combo that you know of?

We used to have a modem and a router, two devices, but the modem/router combo works for us, since we are limited on space.

  • When something says "Drink 2 cups a day" what is the size of a cup?

I searched for, How much Vitamin C do you get from 10oz of orange juice?

And one of the search results said this:

Orange juice is an excellent source of Vitamin C — one cup contains twice the daily recommended value. Vitamin C supports your immune system and may be effective in fighting against the common cold.

Well, what the hell size is a cup? We've got tall and short, glass and plastic cups in the kitchen, I have no clue what ounce they are.  So how are you supposed to know because to one person a cup could be a mug, and to another, a cup could be a tall thermos.  Is there a standard that says a cup is so many ounces?

  • Besides YA, Reddit and Quora, are there any other decent Q and A sites like this one?

Well it's a shame that Yahoo Answers is shutting down.  I've been frequenting this site for a long, long time.  This site for me personally, is the easiest one to come to, to simply ask a question, and wait for an answer.

But do you know of any other decent question and answer websites that might be like Yahoo Answers?

    Thanks.

  • Upgrading PC ideas?

Not any time soon, but maybe in a year or two, I'm thinking about getting a new PC again.  Here are my current specs:

Corsair Carbide 200R tower w/ two USB 3.0 ports up front, mic and headset jack

    Asus M5A78L-M/USB 3

    AMD FX-8300 @ 3.3 ghz

    32GB RAM

    Nvidia GeForce 970

    windows 10

Are there no new processors that allow for Windows 7?  I'm only testing out 10 because I kept getting logged out of websites on 7.  Like, I log into my gmail account, I click on Remember Me.  2 weeks later, I have to fill out my login information again to sign back in.

I never cleared my cache, never cleared cookies, never signed out.  On windows 10, the random "being logged out of websites" has not happened.  I say it's attributed to using Windows 7, a person in IT that I know, didn't know why it was happening.  When I said about using Windows 7 being the reason, he disregarded the notion.

Should I go with ryzen, or back to intel?  Just looking for ideas and input.  Since YA is shutting down soon, figured I'd try to get some ideas.  Thanks.

  • Do you think the new FCC rules will stop or slow down robo calls?

Read an article about how the FCC passed some law so that it can go after people who spoof numbers from overseas.  They said, it won't stop the robo calls, just that they can go after these people.

But people overseas aren't going to bend to our will, so what good is passing a law going to do?  The technology needs to improve in my opinion, so we stop getting robo calls non-stop, all day everyday.  Do you think the FCC law is going to change anything?

  • Which printer company do you think offers the most value?

Epson, Canon or Brother.  Is there one company you say seems to care about their customers, or are they all about the bottom line and scripted answers?

I already have an HP printer, but I'm a little unhappy because they are ending support for their printer software because they designed their software around flash.  Once flash ended, HP wasn't going to take care of fixing their software.

Contacting them through email and forum has led to their basic, scripted answer.

  • Why would I be randomly logged out of websites using Windows 7 Pro?

Yes, I know Windows 7 is no longer supported.  That's not my question.

When I WAS using Windows 7 Pro, AFTER support ended, I had zero problems.  I did run Malwarebytes Premium and Avast.  No, Avast and Malwarebytes don't slow my computer down, been using computers for 30+ years.

Please bear with me on this: If I signed into my yahoo mail, and created a bookmark to go straight to the inbox, after 2 or 3 weeks, I'm logged out and have to sign back in.  Same with the google mail, and I don't believe yahoo or google have timeouts to where you'd be signed out so much like that.

I spoke with one guy in IT, he didn't think the OS no longer supported was linked to being signed out.

So I'm really trying to find a reasonable explanation other than the usual, "come on man, win7 is no longer supported" SO WHAT??  It was STILL working for a time, and then just started logging me out.

I have since began using crapwin 10 and haven't been signed out randomly like what I was.

If you can provide any helpful advice for the question asked, it's appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Toyota Camry 2000 XLE V6 3.0L problem?

So about 9 days ago a deer ran out in front of me at about 35 mph and it hit on the right front.  Since then I've gotten both headlights replaced, and some of the metal bent back to where it once was.

When the car is completely turned off, no key in the ignition, and all doors are closed, you will hear CLICK!.  It could be 10 seconds later, could be 15 seconds later, CLICK!  And this goes on non-stop, maybe started a day after I hit the deer.  Two days ago I was sitting in the work parking lot, click click click click click click click click CLICK, and the constant clicking sound stopped.  Then about 5 seconds later, CLICK! and click click click click click click CLICK! and the constant clicking sound stopped again.  I turned the car off, took the keys out of the ignition, and that single CLICK! sound is still there.

I'm out on the east coast and when we got that big snow, well I had a car cover on my car.  When I took the cover off and opened the car door, no lights came on, put the key in the ignition, nothing.  Battery was completely dead.  The car currently is at 14.00 volts, and holding positive on alternator and negative on battery also showed something like 13.98 fluctuating +- .05 maybe.  So the battery is getting a charge.  And at work, I needed a jump to get it going.

I'm wondering, could this CLICK! sound be something that is trying to engage and is draining my battery?

    Thanks.

  • What is a good alternative to Excedrin Migraine?

I've looked everywhere for Excedrin Migraine, it's not in any stores.  I did read a story updated January 2021 that GSK, who makes Excedrin products, has temporarily halted production on it, but no idea when it's supposed to start coming back to store shelves.

Back when Excedrin was recalled, I tried every single OTC medication there is out there.  Advil, Ibuprofen, Bayer, my desk literally looked like a pharmacy, and none of those medicines did anything for my headaches.

So when I run out of my current supply of Excedrin Migraine, if it isn't back on store shelves, do you know of a good working alternative medication to Excedrin Migraine that works just as good, or better?

Most times I take two Excedrin Migraine, headache can be gone within 5 to 10 minutes of taking it.

  • Could I still make a phone call from my old flip phone?

So back in the mid 2000's, maybe 2004, I had a Virgin Mobile flip phone.  I've had an android phone for a while now, and my phone number has been the same ever since.

When I moved from VM to Straight Talk, I was able to get my account number and move my phone number with me to the Straight Talk service.  I was curious and went on my flip phone and tried to make a call.  I then got a recorded message:

"Sprint has connected you to an external operator where you can now complete outbound calls using either a credit card or collect billing"  the message does say some stuff afterward, and then press 1 to make a call by using your mobile carrier or 2 for alternative payment.

On my flip phone, my current phone number still shows up.  So I'm just wondering, if my current number is on my android phone, is it possible to make a call with the flip phone or not?

  • Unexplained PC lockups happening on new OS build?

It happened on the last build, so I rebuilt the OS, again, and it did it on the new OS build yesterday.  It's windows 7 pro x64, amd-fx 8300, 32gb ram, gtx 970.  This latest OS build is 2 days old.  On this new build, I only have a couple games installed, steam, skype, macrium reflect free (imaging software), malwarebytes and avast.  I did get all windows updates as well.

Basically what's happening is I'll be using the computer, and lets say I want to open notepad.  Nothing will happen.  So I'll try again, still nothing happens.  So I right click taskbar, start task manager, nothing happens.  Then I'm just sitting there staring at the hour glass, and then the screen goes white opaque.  After another minute or so I get this message, Windows explorer has stopped responding, so I end process, and then everything comes back up and working.  Task manager pops up, the two notepads I tried to open are now open, and this all happens within a 5 to 10 minute time frame.

I know the OS is out of support, I'm still choosing to use it.  My question is, could there be a hardware related problem to the lockups?  I use a 500gb WD hard drive and that's more than 10 years old.  To be honest, something tells me it's the hard drive, but every hard drive monitoring software I've gotten all say my hard drives are healthy.  Even the 500gb C:\ drive.

    Thanks

  • Have you been to a chiropractor to relieve pain ever in your life?

I have heard stories that, once you go, if you want to keep feeling normal and pain free you have to make future, regular appointments, and if you stop going, all that relieved pain comes back.

Then I heard none of that is true, and the only reason why someone might make 3 or 4 appointments is because they needed more than one appointment to relieve all of the pain.  But once they are pain free, there's no need to keep going back, unless pain comes back unexpectedly.

I'm not in any pain, it's something I heard probably over 20 years ago, and I've been watching chiropractor YouTube videos so it got me thinking, thought I'd ask about it.

Have you seen a chiropractor and what is true about it and what is false?

Thanks if you can help out.

  • Could you help me out with Uninterruptible power supplys?

Within the last year I purchased a CyberPower 550VA UPS and had my 40" TCL Roku TV hooked up to it.  When the power went out, it ran my TV for a whole hour.

Here's a few questions: What is the power draw of a 40" TCL Roku TV, just watching local television?  Would a TCL Roku TV have less power draw than a 28" tube TV?  If so, how much of a difference would there be?

The reason I'm asking is because if that UPS ran the TV for a whole hour, what would be the next size up for a UPS that could run the TV for 2 hours?

  • Why does Gordon Ramsey call Tom, Sinbad?

If you play and then skip to 1:38 in the video below, Ramsey says to chef Tom on the Blue Team "You, Sinbad, shut it!"  In which Tom replies, "Yes chef"

Why does Ramsey call Tom, "Sinbad"?  Is it because he's wearing the bandana?  Is Ramsey making a reference to the character Sinbad from the movie?

Just looking for clarification, best answer gets 10 points.  Thanks.
