  • IRS has no 1099 on file for me. What does this mean?

I was trying to refile my taxes for 2010 since I found out my job had me as a 1099 employee, when I was really full-time. When I called to request my 1099 form from last year the IRS informed me they have no such information. I definitely filed, and paid them over $3k.

So my question is what does this mean? Did my previous employer not report my earnings to the IRS last year? The company in question no longer exists so it's not like I can call and ask.

  • Central AC unit not cooling apartment?

I live in a one bedroom apartment and I'm on the second floor. When it gets really hot(which is all summer long in south florida) my AC can't cool my apartment. It just runs and runs. I have it set to 78 and its currently 81. I have contacted the landlord a number of times and maintenence swears the unit is ok. My electric bill has been as high as $150 compared to the rest of the year at around $30.

I like it here and don't want to move, but I can't deal with this heat or electric bill. So my question is should I buy a second window AC unit to help the central unit? Would this help my electric bill, or make it more expensive? I'm thinking it would help the main unit hit it's target temperature, but I don't want a higher electric bill.

  • What's a good diet for vegetarians?

What kind of foods should I eat to lose some weight? I work two jobs plus some freelance work so I have absolutely no time to work out, and usually don't feel like spending much time cooking. As a result I end up eating way too much pasta. Can someone recommend a good book or diet I can go on? I only need to lose about 20lbs.

  • Is a credit card company legally obligated to tell you why you're declined?

Is a credit card company legally obligated to tell you why you're declined?

I applied for the Best Buy card, got declined, called and they said they'd send me a letter. Waited about two months, and called again because I never received the letter. This time they said oh theres been a mistake, if you reapply you're sure to get approved. So, I reapply and again I'm declined.

Call back again, and again they say I'll receive a letter. Two months go by again, and I call back again to ask wheres my letter and I'm told again that theres been a mistake and to reapply. I don't think so. I requested for the third tinge the letter of why I was declined and here I am weeks later still without a letter.

So I want to know what legal rights I have here and if they're required by law to tell me why I was declined?

  • Should I start a sole proprietorship, and why?

I do freelance graphic design and I was wondering if starting my own business is the way to go? What are the advantages in general, and tax wise? Right now I have one major client that I do 30+ hours a week for, and another smaller client that I only do work for occasionally. Will I make more money if I have my own business?

Is starting a corporation a viable option, or is my income and client base too small to make it worth it?

I have read about the differences between a corporation and a sole proprietorship, I just don't know which would be best for me.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • How important is a cover letter? ?

Yesterday a listing was posted for a graphic design job I'm really interested in getting. It's an extremely popular NJ music venue so the job will probably get a lot of applications.

The problem is they're asking for a cover letter with your resume and portfolio. I really want to apply by tomorrow, or Monday at the latest, but I don't have a cover letter.

Should I apply without a cover letter or should I try to get one done in the next day or two? Is this enough time to get a cover letter done? Does anyone know of any helpful sites on how to write one?

  • Are these lenses any good? (for 35mm camera)

I'm looking for a wide-angle lens and a fish-eye lens of some sort for a Canon Rebel G. I'm not sure if they make real lenses for this thing or if this is just how they are for older cameras.

    Are any of these decent?

Are there any better options out there for this camera?

  • Microsoft Works question.

When trying to edit a document in Works I keep getting this weird issue.

If I try to go back to the beginning of a sentence and add a word, the new word will begin to delete and overwrite the word that was already there, instead of being added in front of the word as intended.

Is there some kind of option or setting I need to change? It's driving me nuts and I hope somebody can help me.

  • Is there a way to use HTML coding in Yahoo! Answers?

Can you do bold, italics, underlining ect. in Yahoo! Answers? Traditional HTML didn't seem to be working when I tried it. I didn't try posting, but it didn't show up in the preview.

  • Question about writing resumes.

When listing previous job experience is it better to make it short and to the point or to add more detail?

    For example:

Should I just put my job title and a brief description like this:

10/08 - present: So and so inc. (Anywhere, NJ)

    Illustrator.

Or should I include a list of some of my responsibilities as well?

Illustrator: So and so inc. (Anywhere, NJ) 3/08 - present

Maintained relations with clients and provided customer service

    Time management

    Supervised team of 10 employees

    Maintaining industry standards

Primary marketing distributor for *** and ***** Pharmaceuticals

Accounts included companies such as ****

I know there's tons of links and tutorials on the web, but I'm really more interested in hearing peoples professional opinions.

  • Do you tell people the truth about why you don't eat meat?

I for the most part have given up trying to explain it to people. It's so much easier to just say I don't like how it tastes, then to try and explain how cruel factory farming is and all the rest. People are just too ignorant and closed-minded. There are certain people who are genuinely interested that I will explain to. But otherwise, I don't waste my time.

So, are you truthful to people when they ask you why you don't eat meat?

  • The meaning of Swastikas and teacups-Hinduism-Buddhism?

I've been trying to figure out the meaning of some brick symbols on a house in Bayonne, NJ: A row of ten Swastikas above which are two teacups on the left and right. Between the teacups is what I believe to be a lotus flower.

I know swastikas and the lotus flower were religious symbols associated with Hinduism and Buddhism before the Nazis stole them.

Anyone have any idea what the teacups could represent?

Any idea what the combination of all three of these symbols stands for?

It seems so random in the middle of Bayonne, NJ. There are no other houses around like it.
