The US is well over 50% of people with some immunity and should reach herd immunity in a matter of days. Thoughts? ?

Updated 7 days ago:

@anon- at 2 weeks you could have already had the virus before you were vaccinated

Updated 7 days ago:

@οικος-I said "immunity" not shots. Close to 10% of the population has had the virus. Probably more since not everyone goes to the hospital That would put us around 61%. And while there isn't a definitive percentage for herd immunity most experts put it at 65-70%

Updated 6 days ago:

@Rick- 50.4% have had at least one shot. Now, re-read the question because you didn't get it the first time.

@John- "Also, you are not immune..." That's the dumbest thing I've ever read. Immunity isn't a yes/no thing. You'll have some immunity seconds after the first shot. You think the vaccine just sits in the body and does nothing for 28 days?

--  As the US only has 50%  with the first vaccination and far fewer both both, there are not enough yet to say th US is approaching the "Herd Immunity" level. Thay would need to be between 80-85% or more with people having both injections (Pfizer or Anstra Zeneca, or the one-jab Johnson and Jphnson).

--  As there are so many anti-vaxxers within the US, it would seem hard to reach the 80-85% level to acquire Herd Immunity.

It should be denied by "reinfection".

It is necessary to deal with it in more detailed units.

Your numbers do not sound right, and herd immunity takes a lot more than that.

Also there are new variants which are being spread around by thoughtless dimwits who refuse to wear masks or stay away from each other.

Australia and New Zealand have got it under control because they has strict lockdowns and the people obey the rules about masks and distancing and staying home.

Americans are just too stupid to do that. They would rather die than comply.

    10% have had the virus

27% have completed the vaccination schedule

    Hardly well over 50%

Approximately 40% of adults have no interest in getting the vaccine. I'll let you guess who they are. Without them herd immunity is not going to happen unless they die off, which is possible with the new variants.

Also, you are not immune to the virus until 28 days after your 2nd shot.

You are being a bit too optimistic. It's 50% of the ADULTS who have gotten at least one shot. About a quarter of the population is currently too young to qualify. We need about 80% of the population vaccinated to reach herd immunity and protect those too stupid to do the right thing to protect themselves and their neighbors. It's more a matter of a few months, not days.

I got the Covid vaccine then got Covid two week later, gave it to three other fully vaccinated people. I think the vaccine’s effectiveness is grossly overestimated. For something that is supposed to be 95% effective it was 0% effective in our case.
