Why don't computers run on coal?

No more need for batteries, or unsightly cords.

What do you mean, dont?  They still do.  There are still coal burning power stations around the country.   Your question is as wrong as asking "Why don't computers run on nuclear power?"    They do.

In some parts of the world, it does. Coal not only powers computers in the UK, it is also used to manufacture the computers themselves.
