I host a quiz every week but there is a huge gap between the score of the teams. How can i make the quiz fairer ?

Vary the types of questions asked.  For example if the topics were sports then try a few different areas like books, movies, politics, common knowledge etc.  

Make sure that your questions are more varied but bear in mind that some people have more knowledge than others. You could introduce a section where you give four answers and they have to choose one. That way they have the answer and it's up to them but you can't allow for a lack of knowledge or an excess of it in some teams.

You can't.  The weaker teams need to get stronger. Dumbing down the questions serves no one.

Analyze what is answered by everyone vs. what is only answered by a few people.

Hi,no it isn't the same team that wins every week ... there are 15 teams in the league but it is being dominated by 5/6 teams. 

Whilst I agree that these teams are probably more intelligent than the lower teams, I don't want the lower teams to feel they have nothing to compete for, and then get bored or disinterested. I am therefore trying to come up with some sort of system whereby the lower teams have a chance to compete more fairly... a bit like a handicap system in golf.

Is it the same team that always outscores everyone else? That doesn't necessarily mean the quiz is not fair. It just covers material this particular team knows better than the other teams.

Most likely, they're intelligent people who did well in school and continue to self-educate by reading and by choosing what they spend time at online, what TV they watch, etc. This is admirable, but it's not the only kind of smart there is.

If you want to change the disparity in scores, change what you ask about. If your winning team is answering questions covering what they learned in school and read in the paper, add topics that don't require good academic knowledge--the rules of scoring bowling, rap or R&B lyrics, war movies, manga, puns, memes, celebrities, reality TV, cooking, motorcycles, camping, anime, muscle cars, romantic comedies, fashion...
