What is your favorite programming language and why?

I used to like PL/I, but, it seems that not enough people liked it.

I like Python for quick and dirty programs, and, because I'm retired, that's mostly what I use it for.  

Before I retired, I was mostly using MS Access.  I liked that because it integrated the database, the user interface, and the programming.  I use an Access app that I wrote years ago every day.

Having started with C and C++ I like Java because it cleans up after itself.

I'm partial to assembly languages and ANSI C. I'm old school like that. However, I do a lot of custom work for businesses in Microsoft's VBA in Excel and Access these days.
