Why do people say lan is faster than wifi?
Everytime I try a wired connection, it always ends up being much much slower than my wifi. It's connected directly to my modem so I don't see how it could be that I did it wrong.

You are doing something wrong, then, or have a faulty device or cable.
Note that you should _never_ connect anything other than a router directly to a modem!
If you have a combined Modem-Router (with eg. four Ethernet ports & WiFi built in) that's OK, just confusing terminology.
However - if you are really connecting direct to a modem (with just one Ethernet port) then that is a serious security risk, as well as a really! bad configuration.

Because they know what they're doing and YOU obviously don't.
Are you connecting using someone else's Wi-Fi, which could be a faster connection than you're paying for from your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?
Have you updated the driver to your LAN connection with the CORRECT device AND for the correct Operating System?

If your direct connect is slower than wifi, then you have a driver or hardware issue for sure. Direct connect should be much faster.
