Well one could but they would be healthier and happier outside in the fresh air, sun and able to peck and scratch the ground looking for bugs, greens and more.

Yes. People raise them indoors in order to protect them from raptors.

Theoretically, yes, if you can stand the smell and the mess. I raise chicks indoors until they can go outside to stay. The only adults are the ones who need to be segregated to heal up from injury. There's nothing like having a hen land on your shoulder when you are online.
