My last job i actually worked at various locations that ranged from 10 minutes to 1hr20minutes.

But in reality it depends on your pay, the higher the pay the more reasonable longer commutes become

I did a 40 mile ( each way) commute by car for about 9 years, averaging about 80 minutes.

Then I got a job with a 5 minute walk but then got transferred and ended up with a 75 mile each way commute that took about 2 hours . I stuck that for 9 months , it was killing me.

Any more than a hour each way is a huge chunk out of your spare time, but I suppose it depends in the money on offer.

My tolerance for commuting increases with the amount of compensation. In other words, the more they pay me the farther I will commute.

There's no simple answer. It depends on the vehicle I would be driving and the cost to operate operate it. It depends on the rate of pay compared to a closer job. It depends on whether the job would significantly enhance future employment prospects. It depends on whether it means sitting in congested traffic that creeps along, or driving on  a road with beautiful scenery and little traffic. It depends on whether really bad snowy / icy weather is common in the winter and/or if super hot weather is common in the summer.  When I consider commuting I weigh all of these factors, and others. I suggest that you do too. There's more to it than just time or distance. FAIL.

    One hour.

I have commuted 45 min. on a couple of jobs.

The most frustrating was a commute from Torrance CA to El Segundo that took 40 min by car, to drive about 5 miles, that could be done in 20 min. by mountain bike, mainly because there was a railroad right of way that took a diagonal directly there.

I would always value my time by commuting further for a higher paying job, but eventually looking for a residence closer to work when possible.

Half hour by car; 45 minutes by train if I could get a seat and read. I had a 75-minute (on a good day) car commute once. It was quite a stress and really wore me out.
