How many acres are contained in 1 square mile? 1mile=5280ft,1acre=43560ft?

    Some of the answers here are strange and incorrect.  There are 640 acres per square mile.

    In US measurements:  

    A Mile is 5280 feet.

    An Acre is 43,560 square feet (or 4,840 square yards)

    One square mile is a SECTION. There are 640 acres in a Section.

    In Metric measurements:

    An Acre is 4,047 square meters.

    5280 x 2= X then divide X by 43,560 sq ft. Assuming your numbers are correct.

    1 acre = 43560/5280

    1 acre = 8.25 mile

    1 mile = 5280 ft

    1 square mile = 27,878,400

    27878400/43560 = 640 acres
