Is it safe to play games from an external hard drive?

I have WD my passport ultra 3.0 1tb external hard drive. I've playing games from it for a while and its all working fine and smoothly. Even a high graphics game like nfs rivals is playing smoothly. Do you think it could harm my external hard drive or my pc if i continue to play games off it ? or do you think its totally safe !? Do you think it'll be fine even after playing high end games off it ? Please answer. Ty

It's perfectly safe. Your load times might be a bit longer, but that shouldn't be an issue if you're connected to a USB 3 port. All of the data is loaded into RAM anyway before the computer uses it, so once the computer pulls it off the hard drive, there's no difference between an internal or external drive.

It is better to play on your primary hard drive you can use your external drive as a backup

  • Yea, all an external is, is basically a massive USB stick.
