    1) Insulin promotes glucose uptake by cells by stimulating translocation of the glucose transporter protein, GLUT-4 to the cell surface.

    2) Insulin stimulates activity of various key regulatory enzymes which control glucose utilization by cells--hexokinase (G-->G6P), phosphofructokinase (F6P-->F1,6 bisP), and pyruvate dehydrogenase (pyr-->AcCoA), glycogen synthase, and inhibits enzymes which favor gluconeogenesis.
