Govt should not interfere with Bank lending. There was a lot of publicity about Education Loans, now there are huge NPA in this sector, a few of them are intentional. Further Govt should make this default under criminal offense. At present the Banks after obtaining Judgment in their favour, against a debtor, they have to again proceed to recover from the borrower which is a waste of time.

It is a pity that public money has been frittered away like this. Barring those accounts where genuine business problems caused losses and made the a/cs npa, there are huge amounts where companies went bankrupt and the promoters have become stinkingly rich. They spend lavishly on betting, cricket teams etc while the employees go without salaries for months together.

Cheating is a big business in India and bigger the cheating greater the respect extended to the cheat.

Npas are also part of that cheating game.

Deccan chronicle, Sathyams, are just a couple of examples.

Non Performing Asset. Loans and advances given by banks to its customers is as asset to the bank. But, when repayment of interest and Principal is overdue, such asset is classified as NPA in the financial reports of banks.

That just might be public sector not pubic sector. Unless, of course, you keep your banks in your pants in India.
