    There are plenty of B/Bs in the likes of Ambleside and Keswick ,Windermere tends to be a little on the expensive side ,my personal choice would be Keswick ,Derwentwater it's lake is a beautiful setting also a visit to the "Lake Districts" only lake ,Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit .

    Although called the "Lake District " it actually only has ONE lake all the others are "Meres"" Waters" !!

    Take a look at this place;

    www.bayhouselakeview.co.uk

    A lovely cosy little guest house, up in the main part of Windermere, so within easy walking distance of all the facilities, such as shops, restaurants etc, but has the advantage of being tucked away off the main road in a lovely little spot overlooking the lake.

    Have stayed here many times and can well recommend it

    The place is overrun with beauty and B&Bs. There isn't a best lake as such. Choose Coniston or Grasmere if you want to stay in a smaller quiet place. , Keswick and Bowness-on-Windermere have more going on. At this time of year you could wing it, and call in at the tourist information centres to find somewhere to stay. There's one in every town.

    If your budget allows, the Lodore Falls Hotel is very good, but there are thousands of cheaper places too.

    As the others have said, there are loads of B&Bs.

    Everyone has therir favourite lake. I love Wast Water. It feels so wild.
