Kindle fire and External Memory?

Does the original Kindle fire have any means of external memory? I've heard it doesn't do SD card or USB flash drives. Is that true and if so, what option could it have for external memory?

Update:

I am hoping for something I can access google docs on at the very least and wifi for my college assignments if that helps any.

Kindle Fire doesn't have SD card. There's some external hard drive that work, like the following discussion talking about some Wi-Fi hard drive:

If you want to copy your file to the Kindle, the simplest way is to transfer from a computer via USB, here are the details:

Or you can store your file in amazon cloud storage, that has 5GB free. Then you can access the cloud storage on the Kindle Fire:

    Hope this helps.

Kindle Fire doesn't have external memory, however, based on the model you can get 16-64GB of internal memory which should be enough for most things. Also you can use cloud services such as dropbox to store files.

No, there is no SD port on the Kindle Fire. In addition to the local 8 GB of storage, the Kindle Fire uses sophisticated techniques of splitting processing and storage between the device and the cloud (remote storage). All Kindles now allow unlimited cloud storage for Amazon content.

No. Kindle Fire 1st generation has no microSD slot.. And the built-in memory is 8Gb plus you can save the amazon content on Amazon cloud storage which is accessible only near wifi.

I assume by memory you actually mean storage space? memory is typically used to describe the RAM on a device.

    http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Satellite-Wireless-E...

you could look at a wifi HDD.

You do get some space on the device- as long as you don't load it up with video etc, you can pretty easily have some docs on it. docs are pretty small.

Unfortunately, it does not support any type of external memory. Whatever is built in, is what you get. (I think its 16GB if I remember correctly)

The Nook Color and Nook Tablet, on the other hand, do support micro-sd cards for extra memory. You should consider switching if you want more memory.
