Skydiver's riddle. How is this possible?

4 students and 1 instructor were seated in an airplane going over their instructional briefing before a skydiving class. There is a mechanical failure on the plane and the instructor immediately orders all of the students out of the side door of the plane. The failure happens before the instructor can teach the students how to open their chutes, yet all of the students jump from the plane and reach the ground safely on the tarmac. How is this possible?

The plane hadn't left the ground yet?!

Well it's not necessarily that they have yet taken off yet.

First time skydiving I was given a briefing of how to position yourself at the door and execute the jump, while the plane was still on the ground. . . even the engines were off.

My group and I just got in the plane and one by one jumped from the door one by one when signaled by the instructor. Of course it was a 3 feet jump but it was followed by an 11000 jump two hours later that we had to execute exactly the same.

So maybe they discovered the failure as they were having a class on the ground.

It's always possible to order people around.
