1080 x 1920 pixel screen resolution.
Ability to show pictures in 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolutions (horizontal lines to make up the picture).
Screen made of plasma cells and not LED or back lit LCD.
That's the minimum. Anything over and above these specifications is a bonus.
"HD Ready" is absolutely nothing to do with the number of lines that the screen can display. This is a common misunderstanding that seems to come from the USA, and it's wrong.
All it means is that the television has a built in Freeview tuner which is not able to tune into the Freeview HD channels. These televisions must have an external HD source connected such as a Sky HD box. In other words, it just means that the set is "ready to show HD" but it needs an HD input.
It is common to see televisions labelled as "Full HD/HD Ready", even those made by top-rate manufacturers. These are telly's with Full HD picture ability but without HD tuners.
