Consider Alcohol-Free Deodorants! Alcohol is an ingredient commonly used in the cosmetics industry. Most deodorants, sprays and perfumes contain alcohol. You should avoid using alcohol based deodorants if you have a delicate skin.

Alcohol-free body care deodorants and no-alcohol stick deodorants are gentle and usually offer comfort and protect all skin types.

Some of the answers given are correct, some are not. To answer your question accurately, one would need to know what type of drug is involved. There are a handful of preparations available in the U.S. without a prescription and a handful available by prescription only. Over-the-counter (OTC) ones are mainly saline sprays (salt water) the others decongestants. People say the decongestants can be "addicting," which is only partially correct. When used excessively or for a long period "tolerance" develops, which means that the nasal passages actually become less sensitive to the product and even irritated by it, leading to increased stuffiness, which in turn causes many people to use even more. It's not technically an "addiction", but it resembles it in many ways. Rx nasal sprays include an antihistamine, an opioid-related spray for pain, but mainly they're corticosteroids to reduce inflammation. Side effects are usually mild and include irritation of the nose and throat, bleeding, and rarely an infection - but the incidence of these side effects would increase with overuse because most are dose-related. Over use of topical steroids could in some instances lead to absorption great enough to cause systemic (or whole body) effects. These are generally rare because of relatively low concentrations of the sprays, but if one continues to use too much effects can occur, such as skin effects, acne, tissue damage in the nose and throat, mental effects, including trouble sleeping, racing thoughts and aggressiveness. Although rare, this has occurred. Again, this is all academic without knowing the specific medication. There's more than one type of nasal spray as you now see. Rick the Pharmacist

The only side effects to using your nasal spray (if it is Nasonex, fluticasone (Flonase), or another steroidal nasal spray) in this manner is the risk of getting a sore throat. The amount of drug you swallow is too minimal to have systemic (or whole body) effects. Your doctor is probably partially correct in saying that the product is being wasted when you force the medication to travel down your throat. Steroidal nasal sprays work by decreasing inflammation in the nasal passages. There is no benefit when the drug is mainly in your throat.
