Should the Green Bay Packers convert Tori Gurley from wide receiver to tight end?

I think so. The Packers already have six wide receivers likely to make the team, including free agent Dale Moss, a great physical specimen at 6'3" 215 pounds, who caught over 60 passes with six touchdowns his senior year, his only year playing football. This guy should help the receiving corps a lot. Jermicael Finley is a great tight end. The Packers kept a lot of backup tight ends last year but none of them really contributed too much. Gurley is 6"4" 1/8 tall and the last I heard weighed 235 pounds. That sounds about tight end size to me, and Gurley is known as being a sure handed receiver with long arms. He caught 14 passes in one game in his sophomore (his last) year in college, so you know he can catch the ball. As a wide receiver he may not make the team, but as a tight end he could be Jermichael's backup and help the Packers potent offense become even more explosive.

Yeah because it all works just like Madden.

  • There's a problem with your theory. The Packers may have six wide reiceivers likely to make the team, but they also have five tight ends likely to make the team: Jermichael Finley, Andrew Quarless, Tom Crabtree, DJ Williams, and Ryan Taylor. Taylor and Williams reportedly made great strides as rookies, Crabtree and Quarless are fierce blocking TE's, and Finley is pretty undisputably their #1 guy.

I know every Packer fan really likes Gurley, especially after he denied substantial contract offer from Minnesota to stick with Green Bay. However, there just isn't enough room in the Packers' receiving corp. The downside of having a lot of great players crowding a particular position is having to turn away a lot of good players.

The Packers' situation is especially difficult because pretty much all their receivers (WR's or TE's) are all incredibly nice guys with likeable personalties and inspirational/underdog (and often tear-jerking) backstories. Seriously read up on some of this guys, it's heartwrenching.

Yes, I agree with you. I personally believe that Tori Gurley could benefit from making a position change. Based on his height and weight, I believe that Gurley would make a very good fit at tight end. Gurley has the ideal size for an NFL tight end.
