Ankle Injury, 6 weeks but not much recovery.?

I got my ankle twisted during some sports activity.

Got it x-rayed and consulted an orthopedist, but he said nothing to worry about.

I am able to walk with it from the next day of injury, but feel pain while twisting leg at some angles, and if trying to walk on toes.

Can it be a serious problem or should I wait to just get it recovered?

As I have already consulted orthopedist a month back, whom should I consult now?

A great place to go for more help with the problem is a massage therapist. Ask if they have a background in joint injuries and/or remedial massage for sports injuries. I personally deal with things like this all the time in my practice. And if you're still feeling unsure what to do in your case, a massage therapist is going to naturally be more interactive and spend more time helping you understand your injury than a doctor will, simply because we have an hour with you where as your doctor probably doesn't have that kind of time to spend with you. Plus we can show you the kinds of stretches or heat/cold compress combinations you can do for yourself at home which are best suited to your individual injury.

In any form of ankle injury, resting the foot is the most important step. Even though there is no fracture seen on xray, you should not walk on the injured foot immediately.

Treatment should include a physical therapy program that controls early pain and inflammation, protects the ankle joint while in motion, re-strengthens the muscles, and re-educates the sensory receptors to achieve complete functional return to activity.

When an acute or chronic ankle injury is not treated, as unfortunately is all too often the case, repeated injuries may occur. Because chronic ankle injuries do not show acute inflammation even when the ankle is weak and unstable, this may set you up for another ankle injury when least suspected. This may be more severe than the first, and cause an even more significant injury.

Best to see a podiatrist (foot doctor) to have your ankle properly evaluated.

The most important point to keep in mind when talking about ankle injuries, then, is to prevent the condition from becoming chronic or recurrent.

Hi I had a similar ankle injur a few months back...urs too cud b a sft tissue injury..I was made to wear an air cast for 4 weeks..it's available in Delhi/India..my doctor recommended that and made sure that I don't walk without the air cast for full 4 weeks..it's like a shoe..it immobilizes ur ankle..gives it cushioning and support. Very convenient while putting abs no pressure on ur ankle...ur pain will reduce as u lower the pressure on ur ankle. It is extremely Imp to take care of an ankle injury. Do visit an orthopedic and ask him about the Aircast...

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

I have the exact same problem! I was skateboarding and I twisted my ankle. I recommend buying and wearing an ankle brace. When I walk my ankle hurts a little bit, but when I wear an ankle brace I can skateboard Luke nothing ever happened. An ankle brace is a sock like thing that you put on your foot and ankle, and you lace it up. If you go to an orthapedic store you can find them there for $30-$40. But you want the one that has the most support and is that most comfortable. Goodluck.

    rest

Resting is important immediately after injury for two reasons. First, rest is vital to protect the injured muscle, tendon, ligament or other tissue from further injury. Second r., your body needs to rest so it has the energy it needs to heal itself most effectively.

    Ice:

Use ice bags, cold packs to provide cold to the injured area. Cold can provide short-term pain relief. It also limits swelling by reducing blood flow to the injured area. Keep in mind, though, that you should never leave ice on an injury for more than 15-20 minutes at a time. Longer exposure can damage your skin. The best rule is to apply cold compresses for 15 minutes And then leave them off for at least 20 minutes.

    Compression:

Compression limits swelling, which slows down healing. Some people notice pain relief from compression as well. An easy way to compress the area of the injury is to wrap an ACE bandage over it. If you feel throbbing, or if the wrap just feels too tight, remove the bandage And re-wrap the area so the bandage is a little looser.

    Elevation:

Elevating an injury reduces swelling. It's most effective when the injured area is raised above the level of the heart. For example, if you injure an ankle, try lying on your bed with your foot propped on one or two pillows.

After a day or two of R.I.C.E., many sprains, strains or other injuries will begin to heal. But if your pain or swelling does not decrease after 48 hours, make an appointment to see your primary care physician or go to the emergency room, depending upon the severity of your symptoms.

Once the healing process has begun, very light massage may improve the function of forming scar tissue, cut healing time and reduce the possibility of injury recurrence.

Gentle stretching can be begun once all swelling has subsided. Try to work the entire range of motion of the injured joint or muscle, but be extremely careful not to force a stretch, or you risk re-injury to the area. Keep in mind that a stretch should never cause pain.

Heat may be helpful once the injury moves out of the acute phase and swelling and bleeding has stopped. Moist heat will increase blood supply to the damaged area and promote healing.

Finally, after the injury has healed, strengthening exercises can be begun. Start with easy weights and use good form

I nonetheless have discomfort 2 years later and that i'd desire to have an operation. My physio stated that the discomfort won't harm the ankle. i'm not too helpful. If her ankle swells after exercising, in step with possibility she needs to relax it extra. i might.
