Have you ever toured a NASCAR team race shop?
Did you go with a tour group or did you go on your own?
I'll be in Charlotte next week for the race. Which teams do you suggest I visit?

I went to Dale Sr.'s garage/museum back when he was still alive. We got to meet Larry MacReynolds there. It was so cool to see his cars...even the wrecked ones and a Championship trophy was on display but I don't know which year it was. . However, the one thing I saw that made me realize how serious these people take working on the cars was when someone opened a garage door and for a fleeting moment all we could see was guys bent over the cars, and men in long white coats like doctors. No one was allowed anywhere near that area and I was told I couldn't go over there when I asked. Go to any or every one that you have time for. As long as you are in the area...go for broke!!
Source(s): Yes I went on my own...driving thru NC...it was in a place called "welcome" NC... - Anonymous10 years ago
I use to live in NC so I have been to most of the big teams shops, except MWR. But I did go on a group tour a couple yrs ago when I went to the Official Nascar Members Club Convention their went to RCR shop in Welcome, NC and toured the winery that was awesome. HMS, JR Motorsports, Roush, JGR, and EGR are cool shops to visit. Have a great time.

I've been to Penske, Gibbs, and Jr's Nationwide team. I definitely would recommend Penske and Gibbs because you can see the cars and the people working on them, and I've heard you can't as much at the other shops. If you have any extra time you could go to JR, but they really don't have much there except for a wax model of Jr that looks remarkably like him.

I have been to the Roush shop and the Hendrick shop. The only reason I went to the Hendrick shop was because my dad wanted to go. This was probably about 5 years ago or so. I think I went with my wife, mom, dad, and sister.
It depends on who you like. If you are a Roush fan, go to the Roush race shop, if you like Hendrick, go to the Hendrick shop, etc. I really wasn't impressed with the Hendrick shop because I wasn't interested, but I thought the Roush shop was pretty sweet.

No, but I suggest vistin' yer favorite driver's team shop. If no favorite driver but favorite make, then go to a shop that uses that make. If ya just like the sport, pick a good team's shop.

I'd visit the bigger ones like the other guys suggested but also JR Motorsports, MWR, Kasey Kane's shop and of course the Hall Of Fame.

I've been to Hendrick twice, last time was in 2008, got a free race used tire for buying a diecast car. I also went to Stewart-Haas that year. This kinda counts, once went to the little garage Martin Truex Sr worked on his Busch East car.

The top shops to see are Hendrick, Penske, and Joe Gibbs. Another interesting place to see is the Curb Motorsports Museum in Kannapolis if you can squeeze it in. Roush and Ganassi are pretty close to the speedway as well.

Yes! They're really nice and you can look at older cars, newer cars, trophies, etc. You can even buy race-used stuff.
I've been to:
Hendrick
Roush-Fenway
EGR
MWR
and I think two more but can't think of them.
Edit: Also at EGR you can go up on a platform and look at the garage where they work. They were working the day we went.
