Can't download any apps in the Android market?

I just got my Samsung Captivate Galaxy S phone yesterday and I created a Google account so I can download some applications but I can't seem to download anything. Whenever I want to download an application it would only say "starting downloading" for hours and not actually download. Also to add that I'm using Wi-Fi not 3G because I do not want to use my data. Is AT&T's severs down or is it my phone or google account?

Update:

@Kevin Ball. I rebooted my phone twice already and it still wouldn't work.

@Question Man. There was no message or error that popped up when I created my Google account. Everything went fine when I created one. I'll try and create another account and see if that would work.

@Thedude1240. I clicked search for updates and there wasn't any updates for the phone.

Update 2:

Sorry for the late update but @David Hume It's not my wi-fi it was my Google account. At first I linked my sbcglobal e-mail to the Google account which I told that to one of the AT&T employees. He said that doesn't work. That I needed an actual gmail account so I had to create a gmail account but that didn't work. So the AT&T guy had to do a factory restore on my phone and after that I signed into my Google account that I just created and it worked. I could download applications wi-fi and I also tested it at my house and it worked as well. But thank you for all your answers guys.

Its usually the Google account. Was there any interference during the sign up for your google account? If there was i recommend creating a new Google account.

Its your wifi dude. Because the only way at&t can have a problem is if their 3g network isnt operating correctly. Since you said you were using wifi and it wouldn't download correctly, then either try moving closer to your router or try 3g and use some data. If neither work, then at&t must have some really bad servers.
