How on earth do I quit junk food when I'm depressed like hell?

Okay, so I moved to a new place a few months ago only to realise that my school sucks, the teachers are crappy and life is boring and well, i live around people who only care about food. i'll be honest, i never ate much when i was little and now all of a sudden, when i've finally started eating veggies i've put on like 10 kgs over the past year. i can't resist all the buttery stuff and chocolate when i feel so bored and sad. i finally bothered buying a treadmill and have started exercising for about 30 mins each day. but its still becoming harder and harder to quit those notsolittle candy bars i keep having. how on earth do i quit all of the crap i can't help but eat?

A big part of it is if you see it, you want it. Try to keep the junk food out of sight. I have the same problem with sugar in general, but if I don't actually look at it, It's easier. Another way to fight off junk food urges is to chew gum. Sounds simple, but if your mouth is busy theres no need to put any food into it. It's good that you're exercising, that helps boost your mood, believe it or not. Also, don't try to completely restrict your junk food intake. Allow yourself one treat per day, and after you eat it, just tell yourself that's enough, walk away from it, and do something to divert your attention. Something I do so I don't go crazy is allow myself one cheat day per week. For me it's Monday. On that day pretty much anything goes, and I eat whatever I want, because I know I'll burn it off the rest of the week. When you start to get stronger, try 24 hours without sugar, 48 hours, ect. Good luck!

I think you may need some sort of anti-depressant (I'm not trying to be rude, I'm on one too). Treat your depression first before giving up what sounds like your only comfort at this point as you probably won't be able to stop cold turkey in the long run, especially in the environment like you're describing.

Getting healthier should help the depression but take it one step at a time. Keep on working out - its GREAT for you and should give you some nice endorphins which will also help the depression. If you're very serious about giving up the junk food, start cutting your portions in half. So you're having a candy bar... cut that in half and don't let yourself have the other half until tomorrow. The first few days will be the worst, but if you can do that then you know that you can keep it up. Just halving your intake will make a big difference in the long run while not totally depriving you. I really wish you the best and I know how hard it is. I'm in the same boat.

Well switch it up and I say add something ...... mmm fatty? (omg what is she talking about ha) this is what I'm saying

I don't know how your house is but I'm guessing it around a lot of junk food so switch all your junk food for better junk food

Cereal lucky charms for oatmeal or cereal that looks like oatmeal bunches by honey bunches of oats

Candy bars (personally I think those are gross ha ) trade them in for a Luna bar or oatmeal bar 110-120 calories a healthy bar slim fast bar plus their sweet or even those 100 calorie snacks though I prefer the real thing compared to those hun you can't go wrong when there's so many choices

Take every thing out that you don't want to eat out of the closet and start a new

Veggie they now shred veggie ( what you don't have to cut them up? Yeah) you can get what ever you want and buy and try eating it with ranch? Or cream cheese or ..... cottage cheese if its a laughing cow cheese ha

Girl you have a lot of choice you just put the chips and candy bar down and get something better for you

Edit as for the depression part of your life hun your just going to have to get though it but using food as an escape rout is not going to help you lose in any way food can't talk you into feeling better its all on you and your will power I moved seven times when I was younger and gained so much due to stress and new things around me and being bullied after awhile I just closed negative energy away from me and made a new me and I'm sure you can too a lot if people are in the place you are now even if you don't think so

Source(s): If your depression is more then you can handle I recommend that you do go and see a real professional
