Power On / Sleep / Shut Down?

I'm using my laptop with external monitor and keyboard and I have a few questions :

1) Is it possible to power on a laptop without opening the lid?

2) Is it safe to put the laptop to sleep every night, and shut it down only once in a while?

Thanks in advance for your response.

    2) Rather then putting laptop on sleep, its better to hibernate it. Because when you put a laptop on sleep, it stores the session on electronic memory (RAM) , and only powers off hard disk and screen, all other components are still running, wastage of electricity and components are on for no use. But when you hibernate your computer, it stores the current session from RAM to hard disk and turns off all the components(same as shut down do).And when you turn on your system again, it restore everything as it was(restores from hard disk to RAM)on the time when you hibernated.

    1) As the power button is inside the lid so , one option I can think of is to set a wake up time of your computer, so it will automatically turn on, on the time set.

    1) Another very interesting way to power on computer

Yes, It is is possible there are some Multimedia Keyboard in Market which actually has the power button , and which use to power on the computer..

Even I am using the same keyboard and technology..

    2. As concern your second question, I would suggest you to use the hibernation instead of Sleep mode. Because. you just need to push the power button and you will get you stage back in hibernation too. the only advantage in hibernation that your resources is not taking power sleep and they are actually turn off but in sleep mode mother board and processor works, So save your resources through hibernation.
