Tamilians: How do you feel about the periodical CM office news about letters sent to PM on critical matters?

Whether it is the Fishermen being shot at in the Indian waters by Sri Lankan navy or the Cauvery issue or the Fuel price rise or resettlement of Sri lankan Tamils - whatever is being raised by the opposition and Activists - are immediately taken to the notice of PM by a letter from CM, as if the PM is not reading news!!

Do the letters have any value if a busy PMO is flooded daily with letters on long standing issues of states? Is the govt really serious to solve people's issues without passing the buck to the Centre like this? None of the major and critical issues of the people have been solved by the govt.

The govts only want to side track attention of people from major issues with talks of Reservations, ethnic issues like language promotion, erection of statues or naming of bus stands etc, rather than solve the issues impacting the livelihood of large communities like the fishermen or the farmers depending on river flow from neighbouring states!!

How do you feel about this cruel joke being played with pretence of seriousness repeatedly??

Update:

Anbe isai has given a humourous review of the state of affairs but deprived non Tamils the joy of reading them by transliterating Tamil with English letters!

Anjali feels ''sometimes stats govts do like that'' while Guru struck a point to expose the hypocrisy of the rulers.

Thanks friends for sharing your views. Let us wait for some more responses for a day. Have a nice day.

Sanju has referred to Art 300 which enables any citizen or body to sue the state or central govt under the law of a state or centre, on any grievance. States may also sue each other just as Tamilnadu sues Karnataka for not implementing Cauvery Accord. But the point discussed here is not about the means to settle issues but the lack of mind itself to solve issues!! As Anbe isai said the state is not keen to press the Centre at all but just playing a gimmick.

They are introducing latest technology for their own TVs and doing teleconferencing also, but still using letters for critical and urgent issues. This shows they shows how much interest on public issues. The public should atleast know this.

In a democratic set up there are several ways of expression. Hartals and violent agitations have unfortunately become part and parcel of misguided protocol in the Subcontinent. In a quasi federal set up like India ruling parties of the states have come-up with several methods of articulating their dissatisfaction. The following list is no way exhaustive:

    1. Making a huge fuss in form of a rally. A good example would be what SM Krishna did in October 2002when he decided to overrule the Supreme Court verdict. Ruling parties employ this gimmick when they are lawfully wrong but abiding by the law would run the risk of losing popular support.

    2. If my understanding of the constitution of India is right, a state government has the legal rights to sue a central government. (Please feel free to correct me if am wrong – but considering my memory serves right it is Article 300 of the constitution). This can end up as a shame on the integrity of the union in many cases where the state and the union become two different parties. It is like a son suing his father. It is legally acceptable but best avoided.

    3. Another way is by passing in resolutions. This happens regularly in the state assemblies. Some of the long standing resolutions from TN state assembly are “state autonomy” and “Katchatheevu” issue. These resolutions don’t turn much into action anyways.

    4. Last one in this list would be writing letters. These are most favoured when the ruling party decides that taking the issue to the assembly floor might cause commotion and advantage to the opposition. This is a logical first step of action. This should be followed up by resolution (if the letter fails to grab action/attention of the Union government) which should be further dealt with suing the Union (not that I love saying this).

Will KK go further than merely writing letters? That is something that we will have to wait and watch.

Also the government is interested in pulling the opposition party MLA s than governing the state of tamilnadu. our chief minister is very much interested to devote his attention on cenema, dialogues to new films. Surprisingly, the whole family now turned to be the film producers. They worry about power. He is planning how to win in the elections etc.,what you said is correct. The letter writings are to side track the issues only.

  • *Only Tamil Nadu CM is writing letters I think.Do other State write any letters.

*The same video clip, showing CM holding a pad, paper and pen and writing a letter to PM,is again and again telecast. When was this clip shot?

*I don't think people also take this "Letter" drama seriously.

*Tamil Nadu is proud of e- governance, then why this outmoded letter writing.

    Many questions go unanswered.

    *Which language is it written?

*Will it be a typical official letter with all "Subject",Reference"etc;?

*Will there be a record of carbon copies of the original letters as photo copy doesn't match with writing letter?

*Will there be an acknowledgment attached and a record maintaining it?

*Will there be special Postal Sections to look after State wise/issue wise/date wise letters.

*How these letters of many years are preserved?

as if the PM is not reading news!! :: most of the times centre /prime minister ignore such minor???issues even after reading the news under the guise of protocol, with the general attitude -let the concerned state govt come to me then i will think )

Do the letters have any value if a busy PMO is flooded daily with letters:: the priority of the letter is generally given depending upon the writer of hte letter i.e who has written it and the seriousness with which hte letter is made

and yes i agree with you (cruel joke being played with pretence of seriousness repeatedly)sometimes state govt. do it to please their vote bank

    Very true sir.

Everyone is habituated to slow and redundant old form of working in politics.

Every politician is making fuss to make his/her name popular.

But no one is thinking how useful their fuss is really is.

I dont want to comment specifically on Tamilnadu CM (K).

But if people are very opposing to him, they would not have selected him 2 times in a row.

Probably he is better than his opposition (J).

because, even if karunainiti shouts, it will not be heard by manmohansign, since as only a worse person, manmohansingh is preventing himself from hearing by his turban ,about anything bad, particularly from worst people, like karunainiti, who suspends even IAS officer like umashankar, to save his maaplay, maa-play,a raja..
