The irony of the Era of Transparency: what do you think of increasing exposures of corruption in govt..?

We are in the Era of Transparency. You can get any info from Govt under the RTI. You have got Consumer Forums to sue the defaulters in trade and services. You have the ombudsman of sorts to question high level institutional authority. You have Grienvance Cells in every dept to address public complaints, Vigilance depts whom you can directly reach with your complaints.. ever so many avenues that did not exist in those olden days.. but is the situation any better for the citizen?

The Central govt simply keeps quiet against vibrant commotion against a thousands crore fraud in a Ministry. Not even an Enquiry Commission is appointed.

A state's CM starts a PS organisation (State Cable Network) from govt funds on promise of providing cheap and efficient services to the viewing public and simply keeps it defunct without any tangible reason to give to the people. No accountability shown by govt and no question asked - either by the sycophant media or the major opposition or the intelligentsia!!

Constitutional bodies play to the tunes of the rulers, like the CBI, intimidating the oppsition to vote in favour of Govt in confidence vote or a Cut motion!! Media just make fun as if it was an inconsequential event!!

A prime accused in top level scandal is allowed to escape and his forzen booties released without express permission of the courts!!

What is all the use of Transparency and Autonomous institutional supports to support public causes, if the rulers can openly violate all norms of ethics and lawful behaviour in public life? Are laws and institutions only as strong as the people's vigilance and will to assert their rights?

What are your thoughts about emerging trend of criminality and gross breach of ethics in public life, despite all the institutional supports provided to people?

I have always considered myself a pragmatist, against cynicism of any sort,anti-corruption,anti-

criminality and what have you.But recent trends and inaction against the increasing exposures of corruption in government are,I am ashamed to confess, turning me into a fatalist, and the worst cynic ever.Corruption and criminality around me have converted me into a defeatist so much so that I am unable to come to terms with myself. This new facet and change in my personality is beginning to scare me no end.I can't seem to shut myself out from all these inequities, injustices and as you say

"gross breach of ethics in public life and the emerging trend of criminality" around me.You want my views.Well, all I wish to observe is that it is ironical that "all the institutional support provided to the people" is not worth the paper it is printed on.It is like dangling a piece of candy before a child and telling it that it can't have the candy because it is not good for its teeth.Although I am having a disgusting time,it would be churlish on my part if I didn't wish that you should have a Wonderful Day.Please therefore do.

Edit:-My friend,"M S" would,I am sure,be surprised at my attitude because what I have stated about myself conforms to what he has highlighted as the partial blameworthy component in this whole issue.I have no defence for the present.I only hope that I emerge stronger when I -------.That will be my secret for now.

Yes sir, the govt has opened a whole array of avenues for people to know about govt schemes, details of implementation, grievance redressal mechanisms etc but like a crafty business man, has also provided avenues for 'out of turn' services for a 'price', contracts for a consideration... and a whole lot of favours for the people in return for their willingness to wink at their deviancies, to serve their families also!!

you know, who shout most about the corruptions? The ones out of power and who are envious of the ruling coterie; the ones who could never win elections and enjoy the luxury; the archaic media which is under the illusion that people still favour values or who want to incite the opposition with such leaks, against the govt., so that govt would care to respect them 'suitably'; etc. None of these are worthwhile sources to strike any seriousness to govt. Then how do you expect govt to institute an Enquiry Committee of senior ministers, leave alone a Commission!!

People are least startled by serious accidents, grave corruptions or criminality of sorts among politicians or any sector for that matter. So people like Karuna are able to fool people saying that Raja is being targeted, not because of the grave revelations of his corrupt action, but because of his being a dalit!! And lo, no media took serious exception to this diabolical comment of an elder statesman!! What lesson the junior politicos would take from ''leaders'' of this kind?

The situation had worsened to an extent where a reform is virtually unthinkable and a reader of history would only forecast the culmination of the evils in some serious fall out sooner or later, that would cost the nation dearly and wake up people to their proper senses!!

I doubt that the fed workers are taking bribes however the revolving door that exist for many severe point workers of the administrative branch and Congress additionally exists on the fed. those ability some selection are made with an eye fixed on destiny employment possibilities and previous institutions. Bernanke got here from a school no longer wall street and may be able to return to a minimum of one with a nobel prize in financial on the tip of his term, even with the undeniable fact that Paulson became a Goldman Sachs guy and so became Clinton Secretary of the treasury Robert Rubin, who talked Clinton to signing costs reducing financial corporation regulations and there are numerous Goldman human beings on the fed. A fed audit may be embarrassing to each physique who had any potential in the process the accumulation and aftermath of the disaster because of the fact lots of blunders have been made and no person whats their blunders exposes, so it is not information of corruption in the event that they are sitting interior the bill. i've got no longer been following the story, so i do no longer understand yet I doubt if any Republican leaders have signed on the two. edit: I pronounced Republican Leaders no longer Republicans right here individuals have been chosen by domicile Republicans to serve interior the management in the process the 111th Congress: Minority chief John Boehner (Ohio) Minority Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) convention Chair Mike Pence (Ind.) coverage Committee Chairman Thad McCotter (Mich.) convention Vice-chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (Wash.) convention Secretary John Carter (Texas) Chairman of NRCC Pete sessions (Texas)

  • Let me ask you this, as you mentioned there are several tools make available by government of India over several decades for the purpose of transparency, but how many of these have you used? You and I have several questions to government but we would never file an RTI to get an answer, though it is very simple. But we will accuse government that it is not doing enough. Is that right or wrong? We will accuse insurance companies not giving us valid claims, or manufacturers not giving right products but never file a case in consumer court though that is much easier and faster than consumer or civil court. correct or wrong? My dear sir, I do not deny that system is messed up, but I do not agree that tools available are used efficiently by us.

Apologies, I do not have enough times now a days to spend on YA answers, else I would have written answer in much more detail, but to summarize, I have made up an opinion with my short experience of life that it is not only authorities that are messed up but it is also we, the people who are messed up who are not doing enough and that is why we suffer. If we do our job properly, we can force government to do there job properly. But we have ChALaTa HaI attitude.

Apart from governing they have a main duty. They have (a) family. They are from a party that needs to grow. Without funds what can do these poor politicians?

obama has done the minimum, it is up to both dems and republicans to ask more from our parties, if i were to run i would say nation wide audit right down to tows, anytime it is tax money and govt, but i would be kept from doing so cause that is where we are as a country.
